Ura = Tadashi Ura. He did all the illustration in the book, the dragon on the special edition cover, the speech baloons, the special effects & editing, all that. He does alot of ayu illustration & effects (the drawing-look on the vogue cover, all the TeamAyu magazine covers, the cartoony-looking ayus in the Concert Tour 2000 pamphlet, all that sort of stuff.)

And of course ayu = Ayumi Hamasaki. ^_^

LOL... Oh, stop.

I will admit, this stuff gives me one heck of an ego boost... then I realize WHY I know all this stuff (that is, I have no life ~) and I wonder if there's a paying job for crazy insane ayu fanatics x_x

Uraayu literally means "Inside Ayu"
but my interpretation is that the "Ura" part is MatsuURA max, while ayu is AYUmi.

so it is could be a combination of max matsuura and ayumi hamasaki.

Ura in Japanese media means off-shot. Something like a side-story or behind-the-scenes. So uraayu is supposed to be a little side story of ayu's time in the States (was it?)

Could be a pun there then. But tadashi ura DID do the illustration, and the kanji used is the same kanji as his name.

I think the MatsuURA is a coincidence, possibly they noticed it before the release and just thought it made the name even better.

I remembered URAAYU means 裏歩 which means 'inside' ayu as extepan said.
I remember think this was introduce by the media during the release of the photobook.

I was told by a Japanese friend that it means "The other side of Ayu" because I wasn't quite sure what the "ura" meant either. As in, it's a side of Ayu that we hadn't seen before or that she wanted to show.
