Playing DVDs

Please forgive me if there is already a thread for this somewhere (the "search" button isn't working for some reason) but last week I bought (miss) understood / GUILTY CD+DVDs. It was too late when I remembered what happens if I tried to play the DVDs. (Yeah, I'm a smart one Dx) I don't know anything about technology, hehe what sort of things can I buy (if possible) to be able to play my DVDs? Is it the manufacturer of the DVD player, or where I live that's causing the problems?

Like if I bought a Japanese DVD player it would work...? Or would it not matter as long as I live in the U.S.?

The DVDs from Japan have a different code from the ones in USA.

The best you can do is buy a cheap DVD player, or a region free one.
The one I use was cheap (10~15$) and you can change the regions.
I'll give you the name of mine and how to change
since region free DVD player are kind of EXPENSIVE.

MODEL: Daenyx DV2001
01- Open the tray
02- Open the MENU
03- Press the numbers on the remote: 9735
04- A number should appear on the right top,
then use the up or down buttons to change the region.

For your DVD, it should be either 2 or 3, you can check at the back of the CD case

[EDIT] I just checked on the internet the price of this Daenyx DV2001,
it seems to be 25$ in some places, I guess mine was on sale?
Though it's worth it to me~

well i don't think what country you live in will affect the dvd playing

like i have one dvd player from the US, but it's region is suited for playing my concert DVDs from Japan, but i have another that i brought in taiwan, and it works there

but there's also another one i brought in the US, and it works with my DVDs, so just depend on what region your dvd player is

first question: what region is your dvd? if it's overseas version, it's code 3. japan version: code 2

second question: what is the model of your player? maybe we can help you search for ways to hack it.

Download VLC Player for your computer and you will be able to play any DVd of any region
or
Check your DVD player model on videohelp.com you may be able to enter a code into your DVd player to make it region free.

No, you'd need DVD Region X for it to play on a PS2.

I hacked my DVD player as well.

I do recommend it, but only if you're VERY good at following directions TO THE LETTER, and only if you're 100% sure the hack you found is meant for YOUR player & model. If you don't do it right, you risk damage to your player and it'll cost you $10-50 to get a new one.

I have two ordinary DVD players and they both play movies from any region. Also, my PS2 plays anything Region 4 or Region All. When I copy my movies I set them to Region All and they work on the PS2. =D

Well, any DVD player will play anything "region all", that's the definition of "region all" - the disc works everywhere. Most of the time if you copy a movie, by default there'll be no region encoding.

Are all-region DVD players more common purchases in australia, then? Cuz here in the USA, it's pretty hard to find one in most stores. They exist, but they're rare. For the most part, we end up with bigger name brands of DVD player, and they're all tightly region locked.

Well, the brands I have are LG and JVC. One is a DVD recorder and the other just a player. They are both quite old 2-4 years, but still work just fine.

Hmm...Here in Australia we haven't got many players advertised as ALL Region, but strangely enough they play almost any DVD you throw at them.

My DVD player is part of the BOSE stereo sound system, so it's a bunch of things in one. I have no idea what model it is, though. Didn't exactly come in a box. xP I live in the U.S., but I'm not sure if all American DVD players are set to the same code or if it depends on the brand/model...

Thanks for your advice, though! Hopefully I'll figure it out someday. (Before DVDs become obsolete or something xD)

Well what was the name of your sound system? I'm sure there's a hack for it.

Check the list here & see if there's a hack for your system (Read ALL the comments & posts FIRST!!!): http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks?dv...&Search=Search

I usually just play them on my computer, because my DVD player is only the U.S. region also. I was going to try the hack before, but I didn't want to risk it.
