Intro to Japanese and Korean Male Artists/ Boy Band Music!

I became a fan of Ayu in August of '07. She was the only Asian artist I listened to. Slowly, my interests expanded to other Japanese artists, mainly female artists. (Kuu, Namie, ayaka, Ai Otsuka, BoA, etc.)

Now, I'm interested in getting some boy band music. I have a few of Tohoshinki's Japanese songs, and I really like them. (J-Pop and K-Pop)

I also really want some music of Male Solo artists. Japanese and Korean (I don't have any K-Pop).

Can everyone help me out by listing some songs and artists (by male artists and bands, 10 or so) that they really like?!

I can help you on this Cole , JPop wise . I better separate into 2 groups , Johnny's Entertainment & non JE case .

Non JE bands

1) BREAKERZ

see my ava & banner

They easily goes down as 1 of my fave acts to emerge this year & they dab in rock music & it does help that all 3 of them are real good looking in their own right especially frontman DAIGO STARDUST

They released 3 singles so far & their upcoming 3rd album BIG BANG ! will be out in a few weeks's time

recommended singles - SUMMER PARTY / LAST EMOTION , Sekai Wa Odoru / Shakunetsu , latest single Angelic Smile / WINTER PARTY

recommended album - Ao no Mirai EP . They released 2 albums last year BREAKERZ and CRASH & BUILD

2) abingdon boys school

they're also a JRock act too except they're more experimental in their music & it's kinda more angsty driven

they're currently on hiatus & they haven't put out anything this year

recommended singles - INNOCENT SORROW , HOWLING , Nephilim , BLADE CHORD

recommended album - debut self titled album

3) GReeeeN

another promising great new act to emerge this year , the quartet's music's kinda like a mixture of folk & rock & they're coming back with a new single Tobira which will be out next month on the 3rd

recommeded singles - Ai Uta (their breakthough hit) , BE FREE , Kiseki (highest selling single of theirs to date & their 1st no.1 song somemore)

4) Kobukuro

Just like GReeeeN , their music's folk/rock too except they're more folk than the former & most of their songs are about 5 mins long & over but I'm not complaining as the duo makes some excellent music

recommended singles - Koko ni Shika Sakanai Hana (their breakthough hit) , Sakura (it's so beautiful <3) , Kimi to Iu Nano Tsubasa , Tsubomi (this didn't won the Grand Prix last year for nothing & it's their 1st no.1 song too) , Aoku Yasashiku & their latest single Toki no Ashioto

& also you might want to check out their 2nd collaborations they did with ayaka which're WINDING ROAD & Anata to too

5) L'Arc~en~Ciel

I recently got started to listen to 1 of the most respected Jrock bands around & they're real rocking & it's no mean feat to stay together for 17 years & counting

recommended singles - Link , SEVENTH HEAVEN , MY HEART DRAWS A DREAM , DAYBREAK'S BELL , Hurry X'mas , DRINK IT DOWN & their latest single NEXUS 4 / SHINE

recommended album - KISS

6) GLAY

another respected Jrock band

recommended singles - VERB , Aka to Kuro no MATADORA / I LOVE YOU wo Sagashiteru

JE bands will be my next post

ok part 2 which's solely on Johnny's Entertainment acts

1) ARASHI

if there's 1 band that you have heard of the name but maybe not music wise it's this band & to be still going on strong for 9 years + & counting since their debut on the scene , it's this 5 piece group ARASHI

recommended single/s - everything since their debut A・RA・SHI ;p but recent hits wise , that definitely HAVE TO BE One Love , truth / Kaze no Mukou e (top selling single in Japan at the mo) & the latest one Beautiful days

recommended album/s - I love love love their 4th - 7th albums which're Iza Now , One , ARASHIC & Time in which their 6th & 7th albums being my fave albums of the guys . (if not for Kitto Daijoubu which got me started on my ARASHI music journey , I would say Time's my fave album but because of this , it's a tie )

Latest album Dream"A"live's not bad too although the non singles on there are not as strong as their previous albums & you need a bit more time than usual to get used to liking or not liking the songs on this record

2) KAT-TUN

2 lead singers (power to you Akame) , 1 rapper & 1 beatboxer , it doesn't get better than this in this 6 piece group which dabbed & married R&B and Rock harmonisely

recommended singles - everything since their debut ;p (they only put out 8 singles so far anyway so ...)

recommended album/s - I die die recommend their latest album KAT-TUN III -QUEEN OF PIRATES- & somemore it was the very 1st JE album I listened to & this easily goes down as my fave album that I came across for the year too

debut album Best of KAT-TUN is great & so's their 2nd album cartoon KAT-TUN II You although it took me like FOREVER to appericate the 2nd album

3) NEWS

recommended singles - everything since their debut but to get you started , 7th single weeeek's fantastic as this song was written , composed by GReeeeN & arranged by JIN who's the older brother of GReeeeN's lead singer HIDE . I know cos I started my NEWS journey with weeeek

recommended album/s - they only put out 2 albums so far which're named touch & pacific , I like both actually .

They will be releasing their 3rd album color 2 Wed's later

4) Tegomass

consists of 2 members who're in NEWS , Tegoshi & Masuda (geddit Tegomass ?)

recommended single/s - Miso Soup (yes I know don't ask) , Kiss ~Kaeri Michi no Love Song~ & their latest Aiaigasa

5) Hey ! Say ! JUMP

a 10 piece group (yes 10 which's the biggest no. of a JE group)

recommended single/s - Ultra Music Power , Dreams come true , Your Seed / Bouken Rider & the latest Mayanoka no Shadow Boy

6) Kanjani∞

listen to them only if you want to experience a crazy music journey

jokes aside some of their stuff are pretty good & they sing really well when comes to sane songs like ballads

recommended single/s - everything since their debut but my practical fave ones include Osaka Rainy Blues , Sukiyanen , Osaka. / Oh ! ENKA / Mugendai , Osaka Obachan ROCK / Osaka Romanesque , Zukkoke Otokomichi & the latest Musekinin Hero

albums wise - have to leave ||moments|| aka Irene to recommend on that one

7) Tackey & Tsubasa

a duo who takes FOREVER to release new material (like who will only put out 10 singles & counting in a 5 years career + T_T)

recommended single/s - pretty much everything since their debut but highly recommended ones include Venus , Yume Monogatari , Serenade & their latest one Koi Uta / PROGRESS but for me most of the time I just listen to Koi Uta as this's their 1st single ballad

8) KinKi Kids

Every single released since their debut had been number one, giving them a place in the Guinness Book of World Records (that's 27 straight no.1's & counting :O)

& Domoto Koichi's HOT , period ;p

recommended single/s - since practically all their singles debuted at no.1 , these're the ones that I really feel that deserved the top spot :

- Glass no Shounen
- Aisareru Yori Aishitai
- Jetcoaster Romance
- Happy Happy Greeting / Cinderella Christmas (you might find Happy Happy Greeting cheesy)
- Yamenaide, PURE
- Flower
- Jounetsu
- Kanashimi Blue
- Hakka Candy
- Ne, Ganbaru yo.
- Anniversary (1 of my fave KK singles , highly recommended big time)
- Veludo no Yami
- SNOW! SNOW! SNOW!
- Harmony of December (the 1st KK song I heard , an extremely beautiful ballad)
- latest single Secret Code (this's very different from the stuff they used to put out in their career , it's an extremely addictive Jazz influenced pop no. . The B-sides on this single are great too especially strategie <3)

9) V6

recommended singles - CHANGE THE WORLD , Darling , way of life , Chou , LIGHT IN YOUR HEART / SWING !

10) Shuuji to Akira

The duo only released 1 single Seishun Amigo which's a 1 off kinda thing & it became the top selling single in Japan 3 years ago

I love the A-side but 1 of the B-side Kizuna is so beautiful & touching (yes Irene , I know you're giving me the thumbs up on this because of your hubby )

WHEW , that's it

hopefully you can make good use of what I recommended to you <3

one word: Arashi.

JE FOREVERRRRR!

but definately refer to KarenPang's post. all that she listed for JE bands and non JE bands is awesome.

now i'd suggest UVERworld, ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, and Aqua Timez (the main vocalist is a guy, but there's a girl who just plays the piano)

umm if you don't mind a group that has a female vocalist & 2 males playing instruments at the backdrop , definitely should check out GIRL NEXT DOOR

their music style's kinda like dance/pop/rock & lead vocalist Chisa's a babe ;p

oh yeah I like them they're pretty good & they only just debuted this year in Sept so you have plenty of time to catch up with their music since they so far only have put out 2 singles & another one coming up next Wed

Korean: SHINee, F.T ISLAND, Big Bang, Battle and Shinhwa
Japanese: EXILE, NEWS, COLOR, abingdon boys school, Hey!Say!JUMP

I can't really reccomend anything specific from these artists. They don't really have any dissapointing tracks but I guess I could give you a place to start. Especially with the korean artists.

SHINee - AMIGO (Their latest single)
F.T ISLAND - Heaven (Also their latest single)
Big Bang - Sunset Glow (Again their latest single), Haru Haru (Their previous single)
Battle - Step By Step, Crash (Crazy In Love)
Shinhwa - Hero (Vintage Shinhwa ftw!)

Music wise does it really matter? I'll just name the Kpop ones that I like because I still need to explore more of Jpop

Brown Eyes,
they're a duo ballad group. I really like their music, it stands out to me from the typical Kpop ballad groups, though SG Wannabe definitely stands out as well. I really liked their "comeback" third album, Two Things Needed For The Same Purpose and 5 Objects.

Epik High, is an interesting group that are different from the other groups. They're music is hip hop like the other hip hop groups in Korea, but their music rocks<3 I love their Vol. 5 Pieces Part 1

SS501 an idol group under DSP entertainment. I listened to their single, Deja Vu and I fell in love with these guys. I still have a lot to learn, but I recommend that single

Supernova is another boy band! They're released one album and a mini at this moment. I recommend their first album, it's a really good album. They haven't been exactly active this year, except for the promotion of Superstar. I hope these guys come back soon

Taebin of 1TYM, a member of YG's group 1TYM he released his solo album back in 2004. I recently discovered him and I am in love with the album, I'm hoping either 1TYM makes a comeback or Taebin aka Danny will release a second solo album.

W-inds! They're boyband pop. I like their older music better than their new stuff though.
