Ayu made famous by anime? what...?
Someone has made a video on youtube and claims that Ayu was made famous in 2001 coz of the anime she lent her songs too and apparently when you think of anime, you think of Ayu... what?

my reaction to the video:
what the hell is this? btw anime have contribuited to her popularity, but it's not what have made her famous. But when I think of anime I don't think of Ayu ![]()

Um.....wut, lol?? First of all, the "Queen of Anime" is certainly, without a doubt, Nami Tamaki. But we won't get into all that, lol...
Ayumi only did InuYasha, right? My goodness, that anime is more famous for it's music than anything, lol! And you know why..? It's because they picked some of the biggest pop stars of the time (which, a few of them are also the biggest Asian pop stars ever, to date) to do the music. Ayumi Hamasaki was in the middle of her peak, Namie Amuro was at the end of her peak, BoA was just starting out in Japan (which also happens to be the beginning of her peak), hitomi was in the middle of her peak, Do As Infinity had just started to peak..... You get my point, yes? ![]() A lot of Westerners found out about Ayu, Namie, BoA, and Do As Infinity (and Dream, and probably all the others, too) through either this or another theme song they may have done, but that's normal. That's how most Westerners find out about J-Pop. Even somebody as huge as Hikaru Utada was completely unknown in Western world to even a lot of J-Pop listeners until Kingdom Hearts. Kinda disappointing, but that's just how it is. The difference between most of these mega-stars (with maybe the exception of DAI and Dream) is the fact that you CAN find HUGE hits from every one of them, without running into an anime. Ayu, of course, has countless number ones many will find her through, Namie has songs like CAN YOU CELEBRATE?, Hikki has Automatic, etc... Last edited by Crystal_Ageha; 26th March 2010 at 01:07 AM. |

she helped promote Inuyasha along many other top stars like Namie and BoA, of course. But I disagree with him.

It's a western fan most likely. A lot of western fans I've seen know about Ayu from Dearest and no more words. so naturally they'd think that she was an anime singer, because that's how they know her =/

Honestly I am not going to even say that ayu was made famous because of Anime, simply because anyone who has taken the time to do proper research will know that she is famous because her fans love her "deep, meaningful lyrics" and that she is able to connect well to her fans.
I'm not going to say that anime, inuyasha in this case didn't contribute to ayu's populartiy in western society because I'm quite sure that it played quite a role in her being as known as she is in the west. I'm not saying that everyone who knows about Ayu learned about her from Inuyasha but how the vast majority of people who get into foreign music, Japanese music specifically usually get into it from either a video game like Kingdom Hearts (Utada Hikaru) or anime like Inuyahsa (Ayu, DAI, V6, Hitomi, BoA, Namie...). I know that there are a few people here and there that don't even watch anime but are into foreign music and get into it from either the internet, or they know a friend who is from another country, etc. Spoiler:

I'll admit I discovered Ayumi from Inuyasha back in like 2003 (o.O whoa been awhile lol) but when I think of anime I don't think of Ayu and vice versa.
and that video is totally wtf

The only reason I knew Ayu sang for Inuyasha was because I came here. XD I definitely did not come across her through anime.
