MOON and No way to say Similar Structuring
Since Love songs, I have grown to tolerate MOON, I'd even go as far as to say I like it now
![]() This is not a comparison thread as "which do you prefer" but I have to say, as far as the songs go themselves though, MOON doesn't compare to No way to say's amazing awesomeness. Love that winter power ballad! Last edited by Zeke.; 9th February 2011 at 07:25 PM. |

No way to say and MOON are two completely different songs, if you ask me.

I don't find anything in common with them either, but when we are at it, I found hanauta by Maki Goto sounds a lot like No way to say
Listen zo it from 1:30 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NpllcMU8g0 Maybe it's just me, but when I first heard it I was like "isn't this Ayu's song?" lol |

Let me explain further:
No way to say: Simple intro, then BAM @ 12 seconds with the guitar and the background melody. MOON: Simple intro, then BAM @ 21 seconds with the guitar and the background melody. No way to say: Soft vocals during the verse from 24 seconds and slowly builds until the guitar riff and chorus come slamming in @ 1:07. MOON: Soft vocals during the verse from 45 seconds and slowly builds until the guitar riff and chorus come slamming in @ 1:54. No way to say: Simple melody from intro of track returns @ 1:38. MOON: Melody after guitar riff slams in from intro of track returns @ 2:17. No way to say: Soft vocals during verse returns @ 1:50. MOON: Soft vocals during verse returns @ 2:40. No way to say: Guitar riff slams in with chorus @ 2:34. MOON: Guitar riff slams in with chorus @ 3:26. No way to say: Instrumental bridge begins @ 2:58 during final syllables of chorus. MOON: Instrumental bridge begins @ 3:49 during final syllables of chorus. No way to say: Softer vocals for chorus and simple background @ 3:24 building into chorus slowly one final time. MOON: Softer vocals for chorus and simple background @ 4:12, building into chorus slowly one final time. No way to say: Guitar riff slams in with chorus once again @ 3:48. MOON: Guitar riff slams in with chorus once again @ 4:39. Finally we have instrumental outros, although in MOON Ayu has the "whoa-ooh-whoa-ooh-whooooas" added. I was hoping everyone would understand what I meant by the "structuring" of the song and not have to write this giant step-by-step explanation up but here it is. Lol. Yes they are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, and mind you MOON moves slower than No way to say, but the structuring is almost identical. Had they not emphasized the guitar so heavily in MOON and brought the "chime" sound and synths that are present but softer in the song to the forefront, it could have been a winter ballad. See what I mean? Last edited by Zeke.; 9th February 2011 at 07:26 PM. |

I never noticed them sounding similar. I guess the soft vocals are similar but that's it.

It's not the sounds its the structure! Lol. The mathematical equations of the songs.

Well, there are most probably much more songs in Ayu's discography, that do have similar 'structure'. You can notice this in pop music quite often, I guess. Nevertheless I always thought, that every single Ayu song sounds pretty unique and stands for it alone as an original.
Especially with MOON, I was very happy. After the bad Rock'n'Roll Circus era, MOON was a godsend for me. It inaugurated a new era of Ayu's music, more specifically the Love songs era, which is quite an improvement to her last album. Last edited by channy; 9th February 2011 at 07:59 PM. |

I can see your point about the structure, but as already mentioned, most of Ayu's songs use some kind of pattern. That not to say that her songs are all the same, as each one adds something different and has its own unique sound. It's just that as far as comparisons go this one can be applied to alot of other Ayu songs as well

^ Believe me I was the same way. Could not STAND MOON. That is, until Love Songs came out. I felt it was so boring. Her voice in the song is very nice and sounds amazing but during the chorus I felt she needed more POWER in it and the melody for the chorus just isn't strong as well. But I now enjoy the song.

i feel there isn't a real refrain, a real focus of power in the song. I'm aware she sings it pretty well but i cannot avoid to skip it as soon as it starts playing >.<

Yeah...A LOT of her songs are incredibly similar in structure.
idk about these two songs cause im not gonna go and listen...but I do know that, she has a lot of songs that are similar in this type of way. But interesting. I like analyzing song structure; I think it's important.

Yes but I couldn't help be realize how easily MOON could have been a winter power ballad just like No way to say had they made the guitar less prominent and brought out the winter chimes/synths.
