Of couse I would want her to take a break everynow and then! Like another A ballads would be great! Just not another A best album... (I hate "BEST" albums ><)

It's hard to say how things will go really. It's possible she could still have a strong career for many years to come, but at the same time it's doubtful that she will be able to keep bringing in new fans as she gets older.

I think you'll find Avex have a lot to do with it aswell though. If she starts making a hefty loss then she would most likely be released from her contract, or relegated to being a smaller artist. Less releases, less live shows (if any) and no where near as much publicity/advertisments and so on...

It's hard to tell if she'll ever stop. B'z are in their 17th year and have scarcely even taken a break yet (only for solo projects really, and never for as long as, say, the brilliant green). Every single they release still debuts (or at least peaks) at #1, they're not a loss or a risk to their label at all, and even with somewhat fading popularity they're still going strong. Ayu will probably do the same; she, like B'z, loves to make music. She's adding to her talents every day (the arrangement of WONDERLAND, learning to play guitar, better vocal lessons, cooler live shows with new ideas & developments every time). Some people are sick of her but even after 7 1/2 years she's a crowd draw. People still talk about her when they hear she has a new single coming out, whether it's positive or negative buzz. Eventually she'll be a Matsutoya Yumi, i'm sure. Madonna (but without the gratuitous sex) is absolutely someone we'll be able to compare her to, given her ambition, music style, fashion, and overall appeal.

Matsuda Seiko? I'm not sure... but I know a song or two from her, and she's pretty good.

Ayu will turn out to be another B'z, i bet. She just has that undying love for music, so I think she'll end up being really good, really long. As long as she keeps generating talk, and as long as she has that undying love, there's no stopping her. Heck, she'll probably transition to Enka after she becomes too aged for the Pop industry. And still be popular!

Oh totally. To be honest, one of the reasons i think she'll have a madonna- or b'z-style longevity is because she has a huge DEDICATED fanbase. Some people will come & go with her but there are plenty of people who will always buy her records.

And yeah, Yumi Matsutoya still releases new singles every now & then, everyone in japan knows her name, most know at least a song or two by her. She's a legend of pop there, really. I'd be shocked if ayu didn't turn out to be one as well.

I was just thinking, what she loves doing most are the lyrics. She's said repeatedly that it doesn't matter what happens, "no one can take my songs from me". I wouldn't be surprised if she eventually wrote her autobiography or published a diary of poems or something. That would be cool!
