I have always though that she is just the presenter of this brand, isn't she?

She helped design the stuff. She doesn't run it really but she started it. We'd seen a few of her own clothing designs before (One cute dress during a tv performance in i think 1999 or 2000 had a tag with an A logo on it... can NOT remember what performance it was though, but she talked about how she designed it), but MTRLG didn't open until i think late 2001... then during her 2002 tours she started wearing MTRLG and Message logo stuff. As far as i can tell, aside from that, she doesn't promote the stuff much. She's almost detached from the company. I don't think it says her name anywhere on the website, she does no tv commercials for it (ARE there any tv commercials for it?)... I've never seen pictures of the storefront but I'm sure if ayu's face was anywhere on it we'd have seen it somewhere. Heck, i've seen the ayupan store and ayu's mom's "hanabi" shop, no ayu there either.

EDIT: Obviously it was founded late october 2001 cuz the site is popping up with a 4th anniversary celebration thing XD!!

I have been to the store (only one exists - in the Shibuya 109 building) and no, ayu's picture is not in the storefront. However, behind the counter, there were some pictures of ayu wearing the clothes in her concerts. Not like, huge glossy promo posters you're thinking of from A&F or something, but more like clippings? Or actual photos.

At any rate, ayu was not the focal point of the store. More like background noise =P

There are some MTRLB things I like, but Japanese clothes are SOOOOO expensive. I mean, everything in Japan is so expensive. I read the men's fashion magazine "CHOKi CHOKi", and I'm always punched in the face with how much everything costs. Especially vintage & 2nd hand clothes -- they cost more than new stuff a lot of the time!

MTRL is a clothing store. There is a link to it under the forum's banner.

When the company was launched it was announced as Ayumi Hamasaki's fashion line, although I'm not sure what her relationship with the business really is.

MTRL suppose is an abbreviation of "Material" as STR is an abbreviation of "STAR" even with the font of StarWar.

MTRLG = "Material Girl"
MTRLB = "Material Boy"
