A Huge Fan or Big Fan how to prove it?

well a few forums i have went to people have actually caused basically an online riot over whos a bigger fan of Ayumi, whos a bigger fan of Koda or whos a bigger fan of any artist in general. To me it doesnt mean owning every single thing they realease or everything with their name on it. I just think being a big fan comes from the heart and liking that artist i mean not everyone is loaded with money and artist do know that you can at least own one thing or nothing but you love their music. What are your thoughts about being a big fan or huge fan?

I love this thread. I totally agree with your post.

I can automatically say that I'm a huge fan of Hitomi Shimatani and she is by far my favourite artist, but I don't own all her cds but knowing that I support her and her music AND her career proves to myself already that she's always going to be my favourite artist despite her sales.

I was talking about this same topic earlier today. The love for one artist can't be measured on how much money you have invested in them. My favorite artist is Tori Amos, and I own all her albums and some singles, but not having all her singles is not reason enough to disqualify me as a big fan. In fact, I like to think I'm her biggest fan

Exactly! Money won't show how much you truly love them, but just liking and understanding their music is enough. And of course, purchase the CD if you can afford it.

Although I don't know how much of a fan a person is if he/she just downloads. Unless you can't find the product within the vicinity of the are you live in.

Yeah, those weird people that never open the CD plastic. Weird.

exactly remarks were made in the kuu thread earlier and other forums were going on and on about who is the biggest Ayu fan or Namie Amuro and it upset alot of people and that defantly was not fair. I been a fan since Kuu's Take Back single appeared here in the US, there is no fan better than a other fan and i bet many artist will say that they know not everyone is loaded with money but they at least love it that you like their music and do support them in any way its a great feeling. i just buy music i like not every single thing because we have to be honest not every song is going to click with you LOL

I beleve a good fan is a true fan, who won't hurt their fav artist, do harm to both party, can stay with that artist.

downloading all the songs without buying any cds/drama is NOT a true fan. If you really like that singer/artist. you will make an effort to at least buy some of them products.

I agree with the first paragraph, but disagree with the second one. To be a fan is to enjoy something by that person IMO. Buying the CDs can have nothing to do with how a person enjoys something (like some people who doesn't like a CD but buys it anyways just for the sake of buying it).

Some people just like collecting things. So no, even if you own all of Ayu's (or any other artists') CDs/DVDs etc. it doesn't make you a bigger fan than a person who own 2-3 Ayu CDs.

Collecting an artist's CDs or DVDs or whatever means nothing. A fan who owns no products from an artist but really likes the artist and his/her music is no less of a fan than a fan who collects everything he or she can from the artist.

A huge/big fan to me is just someone who supports their artist in any way possible; they don't have to buy EVERYTHING of that artist nor like EVERYTHING. They just have to have respect for that artist.

^agreed, but if that person downloads EVERY SONG and actually have the ability to buy at least an album, i won't call it 100% true fan.

coz honestly, downloading won't help that artist at all.

Being a fan really can't be defined because everyone shows support in different ways.
A fan is simply a person who:
enjoys the music
supports the music
respects the artist
supports the artist

and there are many different ways to show this.

Going to concerts, buying every single CD/DVD/Limited Edition photobook, stealing their skivvies to sell on ebay, writing obsessive letters, camping outside the artist's house to take pictures, and flaming other people who don't enjoy the artist does not necessarily make that person a fan.

a fan is someone who supports the artist and enjoys the music.

I agree about this whole heartedly, but I also try to keep in mind some situations that would make buying music diffulcult. You could love and respect the artist with all you've got and not own one merchandise and still be a good fan. I don't base the scales on how much merchandise you buy, but I do think that buying an album instead of just relying on illegal download as replacement is another way to support the artist.

EDIT:

this explains my feelings about the issue perfectly.

Wow, I think you can safely call someone like that a bit....overly obsessive to the point of almost being a stalker? o_O .....

^read my third post, i did explain it clearer.

Example of 'bad'
i actually know a few people who have enough money to buy, and most j-pop cds are EASILY found here. but, they just download WITHOUT buying any cds....they had the nerve to tell me what a big fan they are....

I think if you own at least 1 CD then you're a fan

I think a big fan would be someone that owns all the CDs/DVDs, attends concerts, is up-to-date with the artist, tells others about the artist.

A huge fan would be some that owns all the CDs/DVDs, attends every concert, knows everything about the artist, owns every single piece of merchandise ever released, tries to convert random people into fans.
