[2006] Tomoya Nagase's father about Ayu & Tomoya

http://mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp/waiwai...dm020000c.html

Dad says no end in sight for 5-year Ayu-Nagase love saga
Japanese showbiz's longest-running "on-again, off-again" love match has been given renewed vigor after pop diva Ayumi Hamasaki and her full-time beau Tomoya Nagase arrived back in Japan from an overseas trip all lovey-dovey and holding hands, according to Shukan Josei (10/24).

The couple's affectionate return from a quick jaunt to L.A. came amid widespread speculation that they were about to split after a relationship whose public side spans half a decade and, in private, has probably been going even longer.

"They're always lovey-dovey," Nagase's taxi driver father tells a Shukan Josei hack, who has paid him a fare that also gets her an exclusive interview.
It's been five years since Hamasaki and Nagase publicly declared they were a pair. Recent reports, however, have claimed the contrary, so the tender return -- given widespread coverage in the tabloid media -- is something of a triumphant one for the lovers.

Nagase's dad says the two stars certainly appear headed for the aisle, but the fact they haven't made it yet after dating for so long has stoked the embers of speculation about a split. The elder Nagase, though, dismisses all talk of a breakup.
"Even the tiniest thing happening around them is turned into something huge. There was all that stuff about the foreigner and how she was going to go off and live overseas," the cabby tells Shukan Josei, referring to rumors that Hamasaki had received an engagement ring from the son of a world-famous designer and that her affair with Nagase was finished. Hamasaki has since totally distanced herself from the alleged foreign suitor, which has in turn worked in Nagase's favor.

"He's not the type to care much about the paparazzi. But Ayu is more worried about the media. When reporters come along, she'll tell him to lay off on the touchy feely stuff," Nagase's father says. "And, don't forget, they are going out together."

Nagase's father says he wouldn't mind seeing his son and Hamasaki tying the knot pretty soon, especially as they're both getting close to 30 (Ayu is 28 and her man a year younger) and have been dating for five years. And he dismisses the idea that they're headed in separate directions.
"Tomoya loves her and if they want to be together, then everybody around them should want that, too," Nagase's father says. "There's absolutely no reason why they should split up."

The cabby says he is really proud of his son.

"He's a great bloke and I'm not just saying that because he's my son," the cabby tells Shukan Josei. "And he told me that when he falls in love with someone, he stays in love with that person for the rest of his life." (By Ryann Connell)

I think why Ayu doesn't let papparazi take pics of them being cuddy is the same reason why avex won't allow, or should i say strongly oppose, her to marry?imean like..avex opposes to that too, not Ayu XD...hmm

(then again, it IS from mainichi...how are we sure that this is valid :3?)

It wouldn't just be Avex that is against the engagement but Johnny's Entertainment as well and probably even more so.

Also, I'm just not sure if Ayu is the marrying kind.

t's well written and no conclusions trying to be drawn out of it. Not any of the usual tabloid crap. LOVELY.

Thanks Rody! & halkun.

I wonder if they're preparing the world for a marriage annoucement soon by having stuff like this go out to the press.

Not even Nagase's father deny the foreigner rumor.

If she wants to get married, she should, but she should finish her career first.

Your not really understanding how it works in Japan. No member of Johnny's is encouraged to get into long term relationships and especially not to marry someone. It was a big scandal when Takuya Kimura of SMAP got married but luckily for them it turned out alright. Still though, just as it is in H!P, it's like an unwritten rule in Johnny's that serious relationships are not to take place and if they do you keep them hidden. It is definitely at least part of the reason why they haven't gotten married yet.

Also, I don't see why everyone is saying Tomoya's dad is such a nice guy? So nice that he was bought off by a reporter when it is obvious that Ayu and Tomoya don't want their relationship in the press.

i agree.

nearly 20 years ago, when Jackie Chan was found out to be married, a number of Japanese fans committed suicide because he was no longer single.

Now that's just.. extreme.

Too extreme.

I think that some people just need to put their energies into something else, rather than thinking they actually have a chance with a celebrity. It does happen, but it's very rare

Aren't things changing though? Utada is married and it didn't hurt her career.

Who else?
Shiina Ringo - married and divorced
Amuro - married and divorced
Tomoko Kawase - married
Hyde - isn't he married? (I'm not sure)

I can't think of which other J-pop singers are married right now, but I think if Ayu did marry it wouldn't damage her fanbase. Not sure sure about TOKIO, but they are all almost 30 or older. How can fans these days expect men that age not to be thinking about serious relationships?

I think Ayu is the marrying kind, at least she's devoted enough to what she does/likes to keep it up, so marrying wouldn't be that much of a change - she's already devoted to Nagase, proven over the past 5 years.

Although... in Japan I guess that a marriage is something even more definate than doing it here.

I think that a marriage in Japan is forever...

Like, even if you're having problems, you must stay together. But like, in the West.. DIVORCE!
So, it'd be like, bad to find the wrong person. I think Ayu and Tomoya found each other perfect for one another.. but they're probably still in the 'love love' stage

How is it with divorces in Japan, does it happen? I guess it does, but... it's very hard for the wife if she doesn't have any job (which is way too common), so she's got to rely on her husband... ugh... horrible society.
