German music recommendations?

I just listened to the new version of 99 Luftballons by Nena. It absolutely rocks.

Does anyone have any recommendations for German music? With the exception of metal and rap, I equally like all genres. If I had to choose only a few genres, however, I would choose Pop and Rock.

Thanks for any future recommendations!

Juli! Juli is a rock band, with an awesome sound. Guy band + Female vocalist is usually a great combo, and they live up to that.

My favorite songs by Juli are:

Perfekte Welle
Warum
Sterne

YES, YES, definitely Juli, they're great! Their current single is Dieses Lieben. You could also try Silbermond, they're about the same as Juli, they only have one band member more.
LaFee is a popular 15-year old girl who does pop/rock, check out her singles Virus, Princesschen and Was Ist Das.
Also, Christina Stürmer, she's Austrian, but makes music in German as that's her native language. Check out Ich Lebe, Engel Fliegen Einsam and her current single Nie Genug.

When you say "with the exception of metal", does that include bands like Rammstein?

Yeah. I just don't like Metal, nor do I like Heavy metal. They're just not my taste at all. But thanks for the mention of Rammstein, anyway. It's nice of you to recommend some music.

Thanks for all the recommendations, everybody! Thanks, evolusean, for recommending Juli! And thanks, criminal, spookshow, and kaue_ for your recommendations! Christina Stürmer, OOMPH!, and some other recommendations sound awesome. Thanks!

I absolutely love anything by Silbermond. They are one of my favourite bands. Their have upbeat catchy songs, songs to rock out to, and then the most beautiful balads I've ever heard. The songs I recommend are:

Synphonie
Ohne Dich
Unendlich
Durch Die Nacht
Meer Sein

i love rammstein! i wish they'd come do a concert in australia!

i've been thinking, and there's a few Eisbrecher songs you might like -- eisbrecher are a german industrial band too -- but they have some dancy sorta tracks. the lead singer Alexx something-or-other has that gorgeous deep voice *sigh*

if you're interested give Schwarze Witwe, Vergissmeinnicht and Ohne Dich (lots of bands have songs by that name) -- they're sorta rock, sorta dance -- very cool!

I think Blümchen is quite horrible, although I did listen to her some a few years ago when she was active.

Her genre is eurotechno, the beats can be a bit catchy but her vocals is very weak.

Rollergirl is the only artist that comes to my mind, considering her kind of music.

If you don't mind it being a man singing, E-Type is pretty close, too.
