How do you feel about open hostility towards artists?

Right, so, basically I mean, people are going to like all different types of music, everyone is different, surprise, surprise. But I mean, is it enough to just understand this concept? People go around and blatantly bash artists all the time with no proof, no evidence, and even if they did have evidence, even if the star came right out and said the most horrible things, I mean, is it right to go around and, for example, be happy when something horrible happens to them, or when their careers halt for a moment...

I mean, I don't want to be overly sensitive, but sometimes I think it's just rude...

What do you think? Does it bother you?

It's ridiculous, there only (IMO) a few artists that really deserve to be bashed but those are the guys who probably don't sing about anything and just want moolah! If someone doesn't like an artist then it's probably not their thing so it should just be left at that rather than making enemies and getting frustrated (and frustrating others) for no reason.

I understand what you're saying, and I agree with most of it, but, Do you really think that any artist deserves to be bashed?

Does anyone? All kinds of people have all kinds of problems that affect the way they act because people cope with things all differently...it's not easy to understand people..it is easy to bash them, but to me, just because it's easy doesn't make it right...but then...maybe if you bash people they'll get it through their heads that they need to change?

I don't really mind it.

I'm not going to explain why because, I'll admit, the answer is probably extremely ignorant and biased. I just find that, other than Ayu, people here have appalling taste in music. Some people just like to show it?

i don't mind it, but just don't be too harsh, giving constant put downs on an artist is really quite upsetting for a few.

I don't mind occasional few complaints here and there but when people get obsessed at bashing an artist on a long term basis it gets really irritating.

I just don't understand why people just need to go to threads of artists they absolutely don't like just to create a lot of aggravation.

When people bash artists on this board it's very irritating, as this board is supposed to be inoffensive. But I really don't mind too much when people despise artists and they actually have a valid reason to feel that way. A lot of people hate Madonna because she's rude, and a lot of people hate Koda Kumi because of her extremely provocative style, so I can see people's rationales for believing that those artists deserve bashing, so long as it isn't excessive. Personally, I despise artists such as 50 Cent and other rappers who are hostile towards the gay community, as I am gay myself.

And hey emiko, I've missed you girl

Exactly, see, I wouldn't mind either if people could explain themselves once in a while...I would honestly like to know the real reasons behind why people don't like artists...ex. for me, saying kuu is a **** just doesn't cut it...

and I missed you too cutie

Yeah...I don't understand the reasoning behind even caring about another person's race, religion...or anything honestly...I mean, if it doesn't affect you, and it obviously isn't affecting that person...why does it even matter.

For me, I think artists have a whole set of problems that people that aren't working for companies like avex just don't understand. How are we supposed to know what is real and what isn't, and how much is in their control?

honestly, I find it amusing & entertaining. it's good for laughs

I do understand it's not the same for everyone, I just can't take it so seriously that I'd be offended if someone bashed artists I like.

I don't mind if it's about someone's career, like their songs or the way their career is going, but when it becomes personal then it is rude to me because the people doing the bashing don't know the person really.

I personally believe that if you don't like an artist, then do as your parents taught you and don't say anything at all unless it's something positive. It's not difficult at all to simply not listen to their work or follow their career and leave it at that. All you're accomplishing by trash talking is hurting other people's feelings and creating fan rivalries.

Like most of you already know I'm sure, this is really bothersome. I get so much **** from all types of people for being a Madonna fan on a daily basis. "It's funny how everybody mentions my name, but they're never very nice..." They say all sorts of terrible things about her to me thinking that I will either just laugh it off or start up an argument with them. Everyone has their shortcomings I realize and even though I think the world of her I don't like to give people the time of day by arguing with them. They are still going to judge her based on the person she was over a decade ago no matter what I say, so I just tell them to ignore her and that's that. Nitpicking superficial things about people we don't even know and will probably never even meet, how sad is that?

At the end of the day, celebrities are still people just like you and I. Why put so much energy into something that is so negative and unproductive in the first place?

I think it shows real immaturity to put effort into hating something. But you know, people are experimenting with their emotions and what it's like to really hate one thing, really love another... so you have super fandom and then psycho haters. That's my theory anyway.

I know that different people have different opinions, but I hate when people say immature things for the sole reason of starting a fight or hurting someone's feelings.

I can understand criticism... but why would I go to a Kumi fan and say, "oh em gee, how can you lyk herrr... she's such a ---- ew, and like her voice is soo ---- and don't get my started on..." That's just silly... if you don't like her fine, but you don't have to be childish about it or malicious.

People have their opinions, but others just don't know how to express it appropriately.

I UBER dislike certain artists for different reasons... and sometimes I can't fathom why ppl love those artists and that makes me want to point out everything thatz wrong w/ them... but thatz not gonna change their mind and also i wouldn't want someone poking at my fav artist(s) so i attempt to abstain from artist bashing...

rikku411, I agree with you, I think Koda bashing is what I've seen the most lately ^^ I wouldn't say I'm her fan, but I'm not out here saying she's a b-atch just because I don't like her or being rude to people who are her fans.
If I don't like an artist (like Britney Spears, who also gets her daily dosage of bashing nowadays), or don't have anything positive to say, like Vinylfantasy mentioned, it's better to shut up! I mean, that' being a troll! XD

Oh, and I get really pissed off when someone bashes Freddie Mercury because he was bisexual and stuff like that. I just want to tell the person right away "STFU" ^^;

I don't mind people disliking artists, since everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's not right when people mindlessly bash artists that they know nothing about or on they way they present themselves or the kind of style they represent.

Personally, I wouldn't care if someone turned around and bashed my favourite artist or band to any extent 'Cause I have my opinion and they have theirs and I'm not going to stoop to their level by bashing back.

I'm fine when people are critical of other artists, but I'm not fine with mindless bashing. Just going around saying so-and-so is bad, or the equivalent, doesn't really do anything, and is just annoying. People are entitled to their opinions, but there is a such thing as a well expressed opinion and a poorly expressed one.
