Is it bad that...

Okay, so we all know how much Ayu bashing goes around on other forums, sites, YouTube and etc. I've heard alot of people (Ayu fans included) say how people shouldn't jump to her defense so much when something bad is said about her.

Is it so bad that some people DO jump to her defense so quickly? I mean, it would come naturally to me because I love the woman to death, but I wouldn't do it in a bad way or a way that was insulting to others.. and it depends on what they're insulting her on.

I remember that somebody put her Endless sorrow performance from DOME TOUR 2001 up and there was this one person who was criticizing her voice, saying that she was the worst singer in the world, her pitch was so horrible and how in Japan they didn't make people singers for their voices but for their appearance and Ayu was an example of that. And naturally, I jumped to Ayu's defense and eventually stopped that person from posting in the video anymore after bringing up good points. /rant

So is it bad that people defend her? I'll admit, the people who do it in an annoying kind of way to irritate me, but if you have a good point I don't see anything wrong with it.

I dunno.

It's the same for many Western artists who have diehard fans.

If you're a fan, you probably tend to defend certain things about a performer.. like surgery or smoking or singing talent... stuff like that.

But also, if you're a fan, you might also be saying things like that about an artist... @__@ XD

No, it's not wrong to defend her. I mean, it's like basically everyone and everything - if you like something, you're going to defend it when someone talks badly about it.

True, people go too far when talking badly about her (and when defending her), but in the end, it's their own opinions, and you have yours.

The main problem is because most of the times, it is actually pointless. You can't force your tastes and opinions through others, and if they're determined about their opinions, you can do nothing by trying to prove otherwise.

Another thing is basically because there are trolls. Arguing with trolls is like adding fuel to combustion.

Also can we really do much if someone saysd:

"Ayu looks like a toad a sings like a hyena"

What are you going to back it up there? It's their opinion. Will you say: Oh but listen to Will and you'll be proved otherwise. And the person will say: "I did, and she sounds like a hyena there"

So where's the point?

I don't really think there's a point to any discussion at all if you look at it in the way that you do :p

I mean, people talk about things, and 90% of the time, there's no point to it if it's defending or trolling or whatever.. :/

Right? @_@

There's a point when you give an opinion on a song you like or dislike. It makes people understand more about you, and see differences of opinions. To me there's no point in trying to change somebody's opinion when their opinion is already pretty much determined or they're obviously trolling. There's no point in trying to prove "ayu's awesomeness" to someone who clearly doesn't like her or is intentionally willing not to like her.

it is not never wrong to defend Ayu or anyone for that matter. You can try your best to get people to understand your opinions but sometimes it fails to work....I just completely ignore ayu bashers because it is senseless and dumb. everyone is entitled to their own opinions but some just go overboard..

Defending an artist is fine as long as you don't resort to name-calling or trying to bring down other artsts in an effort to make them look better. That irritates the crap out of me, and doesn't do anything except make you look like a weaboo :/

That's how I look at it too. When I defend Ayu I don't say something typical like "Atleast she's not trashy like Koda Kumi" (not saying Koda is.)

Yeah, it really irritates me when people know you're a fan of ______ so they bring that artist up randomly when you say something about another artist that isn't "lol yay she/he/they rock!! ~"~

It's not bad. But I think that usually when somebody has a belief it's difficult to sway them. Your opinion is yours, and theirs is theirs.

I think that some people probably say to not defend, because if somebody bashed Ayu, then the defender might be... um, silly, and say, "AYUMI IS THE BEST!" "YOU SUX FOR HATING HER!"

Please don't defend people like that- EVER. For anything.

The argument that Ayu is fake always gets me boiling up OMG.

I was like exploding when someone did that :p

There's a lot of evidence against the Ayu = fake argument, and I printed photos out the next day and would've showed video if I had the resources to.. :O~~

OMG I KNOW! I hate those kind of arguments! I especially hate when people try saying that she's had plastic surgery. I have one sole point that completely destroys that argument, I get so irked when people say stuff like that.

I am a diehard Ayu fan and I believe 100% that she has had plastic surgery (I'm not even going to try to convince you here). I don't think we should crucify people who do believe that she's had work done, because ultimately you should ask yourself--does it matter that she's had surgery? It only changes the way she looks on the outside, not the lyrics that she writes from her heart nor the way her music sounds. You gotta learn to shrug off the small stuff

That's totally your opinion. And I'm shrugging this off because you aren't all trying to bring her down for it or anything. I'd like to ask you as to why you think she's had plastic surgery, though? I'm not trying to jump into an argument but I just wanna know why.

Oh just comparing old images, that's all. I don't think she's had terrible work done at all---just very, very common procedures in Asia that you can easily shrug off. Like eye-lid widening surgery. I honestly think she did that (because even though she had larger-than-average eyes before they definitely were not what she has now), for sure. It's not a big deal in Asia at all (hell, my own parents want me to get it). She probably had a tiny nose adjustment too. For the most part, yeah, I think she lost weight and got professional makeup and such, but some things like eye widening and nose structure fixing you just can't do without surgery.

I mean, honestly, she just doesn't look like this anymore. To each his own though.

There are two sides to the coin here. Is defending an artist you like a crime? No. Is being unable to view said artist's music objectively, and thus blindly worshiping the artist a crime? Yes. I think it's fine to be quick to jump to the defense of Ayu or whoever else, but one should do so with an open mind. A lot of the time I see that a lot of fans that will praise anything that their favorite musician pulls out of his/her butt and frankly that's just wrong. You still need to be able to reason properly and use your good judgment. If you think something sucks, it's okay. Each artist has his/her weaknesses and it's perfectly fine to not like a song or two (or hell, even more) if you don't honestly think it's good.

For example, I remember getting into a semi-argument with someone over the JEWEL PV when it was released. This person was like, "OMG JEWEL IS SO DEEP AND PROFOUND" and I said, "Uh. No. It's pure eyecandy." Seriously though. You can say, "Yeah I like the PV whatever." but to be quick to assign wonderful things to something not-so-wonderful is biased and lacks proper sense.

Basically, defend when you think that you can. When you honestly feel like it's good work that is being insulted; not just because you feel obligated to because you're a fan of Artist X. I will be honest when I say that Ayu's vocals in 2000/2001 lives SUCKED. HAAAARD. I remained a fan because I know she's not a singer born, but a singer made and that despite setbacks she works hard and truly is a decent singer and performer. Just don't go overboard with the defenses to the point where you are blindly praising everything.

YESSSSS. ILU for saying this
I couldn't see myself kissing the ground that any artist walks on. Not even my favorites.

Well, there's a difference between blindly liking something and genuinely liking everything, right? ~

[I'd have to admit, a lot of Ayu's magazine shoots recently have been kind of lacklustre compared to 2006's and 2005's.. at least a large majority..]
