What the hell is Def Jam doing to Amerie?! :/

I never thought I'd see this happen, but Def Jam seems to be quickly turning Amerie into your run-of-the-mill hip hop singer. I can just picture her releasing some song with T.I. or Kanye and it becoming the biggest hit of her career...

Apparently she iss working on her next studio album with L.A. Reid who is heading up the entire project, producers Rodney Jerkins, Danja, Polow da Don, The Neptunes, Rich Harrison, Swizz Beats, Sean Garrett, Bloodshy & Avant, DJ Toomp, Fernando Garibay, Kanye West, Ne-Yo and Stargate have already been confirmed. I see no Michael Cox in that list! Future possible collabarations with Ne-Yo, Lloyd, Cee-Lo, John Legend, Kanye West & T.I. are already been in talks.

I WANT THIS AMERIE BACK GODAMMIT! v

Spoiler:

Is that Beyonce? No... it's Amerie. >.>

Maybe I'm overexgerrating(sp?), but this is like my favourite artist and I've always liked how Amerie has been so unique compared to all the the other urban singers out there. I don't really know how to word it all, it's really bugging me...

....just wtf?! Turning her into cheap hooker hip-hop trash is the way to get her career boosted again? Def Jam is an epic fail when it comes to promoting their artists except Neyo and Rihanna. What happened to the 1 Thing Girl? What happened to the Paradise Girl? (OMG! I luv that song! ) Ugh, turning female singers into hooker trash is so ******* old. =/ I mean, seriously. Why couldn't they leave her the way she was before? IMO, I luved her look in 1 Thing. I mean, it was simple and nothing to provocative. Now she looks like she's worked a several strip clubs. Hip-hop I tell ya!

^^Yeah but Discipline was a step in the right direction, it was WAYYY better than Damita Jo and 20 Y.O. But Def Jam wanted to promote the album in a way that Janet disagreed with..and because of that all of the albums promotion was stopped She said that in a recent interview, I forget from where. If they keep pulling stunts like that for her future releases then her career will become even more dead

Do you remember what they wanted to make her do? I'm intrigued now, since I hadn't heard that story before.

"That's pretty difficult to say, only because of the record label at this point. We started off with "Feedback" and the label and myself haven't quite seen eye to eye since the "Feedback" single so they’ve kind of basically stopped all promotion. I'm trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album so I don’t think you're going to hear another single off this album."

I'm not sure what exactly they wanted her to do..but Janet clearly didn't wanna do it.

To me, it sounds like they might have wanted her to release only the songs they picked as singles, and she didn't like their choices.

Very interesting, thanks.

^I heard her label didn't want her to include her trademark spoken interludes on Discipline (I can't blame them), but she decided to include them anyway and thus they were reluctant to promote the album.

Honestly, Amerie is lucky Def Jam enlisted such exceptionally talented and sought-after producers for her next album.

she changed her record label or something?

i agree that the label has a big part in creating an image. it is interesting that people blame record labels for other artists' images, but they let ayu take credit for ayu's image.

Amerie left Sony BMG & signed on with Def Jam & I do agree I don't like her new image as well

she's an unique individual & she has her own style but I don't like the way her new image turns out to be now

Honestly, it sounds like they're doing a LOT for her. I'm very impressed they're putting that much effort into her project.
