Who's the best vocalist?

Out of the great female singers which one is the best vocalist?
Means which one has the best voice live, has the best voice abilities etc.

Sorry Ayu, but for me Kuu and Mika Nakashima are much better vocalists!
Both are just fabolous live, can sing high notes as well as deep ones, both blow me away with their voices more often.

if you're talking about vocal aspect , definitely Mika

others include Hidemi Uematsu , ayaka & Ken Hirai in which both ayaka & Ken sound the same if not more superior live than what you hear on a CD

I voted Ayu, but I think that namie amuro (even though her voice gets autotuned and edited like **** on some tracks) and Utada Hikaru (simple and clean /hikari FTW) deserve the 1st place too.

And she sounds fantastic live. You try dancing your butt off and then popping out some of the notes she has to and then you'll understand.
This is were I strongly have to disagree. She puts too much emphasis on the dances rather than singing.

Ayu definately. her voice is being better day by day. other singers never improve their vocal esp hikki, her voice is just like that no improvment.
every single song has the same vocal.

but the best IMO isnt ayu. I think the best is Yuna ito, Ayaka and Hiro (member of SPEED)
esp Hiro, she really can sing very well while dancing.

For those saying Namie can't sing - you obviously haven't heard some of the rare gems in her discography. If you can listen to I Will, Wishing on the Same Star, Rainbow Moon, Wagamama Wo Yurushite, and Shine More and tell me she can't sing then you need to get your hearing checked.

And she sounds fantastic live. You try dancing your butt off and then popping out some of the notes she has to and then you'll understand.

Comparing her to Britney Spears is just ridiculous. She could sing Britney Spears under the table.

In my own opinion, Utada is the best to me out of those listed. I don't really see how her music is boring . Heart Station wasn't the most exciting for me, so I'll give you that, but I even loved that album. Anyway it's not about the music - as was previously mentioned - but the vocals. Utada has an extremely powerful voice. Say what you want about her range, but her VOICE is powerful. In most of her concerts you can't hear her audience applaud or cheer because that's how overpowering her voice is. Also -despite what some have said - there IS maturity in her vocals. Go from Heart Station to 'Me Muero' on This is the One and then to Show Me Love (Not a Dream) on Singles Collection Vol 2 and you can hear it (and elsewhere).

I don't really see Ayu's vocal progression as maturity. Instead I see it as 'these are the only notes I can hit now days so let's see what I can do at this level' -- she was practically screaming all throughout 'Love Song' (not the entire album though). Though I still love her so i'm willing to look past, lol.

I am NOT a fan of Ayaka but I will say she has an amazing voice. Her vocals are very smooth and powerful. 'Why' is such an amazing song.

Nops, u can't hear the audience applaud or cheer both because japanese people remain silent while the performer sings for showing respect, and because its a common practice to remove those sounds from the DVD edit so u can better listen to the music... It has nothing to do with Hikki's voice being powerfull...

BTW, if her voice was that powerful, there were no need for her to sing with the microphone almost inside her mouth...as much as a love her, and her voice, as she is my favorite musician ever, she is most likelly the one with the less power of those on the list...

i would say utada hikaru definitely. i think she was given one of the best voice, and she was able to sing a wide range of keys, be it very high or very low.

TAE YEON from Girls' Generation!!! She's Korean though. But she's wonderful. She's like... 20 years old? She voice is so husky and her vibrato sounds amazing. Unlike Ayu's, haha.

If it's only for Japanese vocalist, then it would be ayaka and BoA for me!

Ayu doesn't sing so well live. Her voice in general can be good or really bad. She used to be amazing around the RAINBOW era. Now it's just bad. Really bad. She can't hit her high notes and her vibrato are terrible. XD
I don't like the voices of Utada and Mika so much... But Mika can hit her high notes. Props to her.
Koda Kumi is great in performance and she often sounds exactly like her CD version but her voice in general is scratchy, not very pleasant.
Namie Amuro is wonderful on stage also. Her range is very limited but beautiful voice.

LOL. No Ayu is the worst. Namie's voice is really nice IMO.
She sounds terrific in "Wishing On The Same Star" and "ALL FOR YOU".

Koda Kumi.
I think she's at her absolute best when she sings live. There are some live versions of her songs that I think are better than the studio version. (ex: Heat @ Black Cherry Tour and girls @ Kingdom tour)

I think that Ayu still sounds good, but she's lost it a little.

And Namie Amuro sounds horrible live. She's got some great songs, but she can't sing live.

Now, if we were talking about male singers, then I would defiantly choose Shou from Alice Nine., Gackt, Ruki from the GazettE, and Park Yoochun from DBSK.

I absolutely agree for Ruki ♥

For female singer, Ayu gets my vote!

State your opinion less creatively and with better grammar, please. : )

I voted for Utada. Out of the others on this poll, I think I'd rank Kuu or Mika (even though I don't really listen to her) second and then Ayu.

i still say kumi and namie!
