Moments PV...clearing something up.
So I want to see people's opinion on this...the Moments PV...
That scene where Ayu is lying on the ground...a lot of people think that's blood. I wasn't sure what was going on myself at first, but I'm pretty sure after watching a few times that she's being tarred and feathered. Albeit sloppily. What does everyone think? I really don't think it's blood at all. |

Yeah, but if it's really blood, ths substance would be red and not black.
The idea of being tarred feathered seems logical.

^ Can that be cited? If so, I would stand corrected.
Still doesn't explain the feathers though. Maybe her position as incapacitated on the ground would suggest some sort of injury, but it's still tar... |

I thought it would interlink with the lyrics?
"If I could flutter like a bird I would fly to you And offer my wing To your wounded back" Like she gives that person her wing, hense the feathers and blood. Like the wing has been torn from her back to help that person. So they both have a wing each.

I don't remember which member of the forum said it, but he quoted a Japanese article that had been translated.

I've always considered it tarring & feathering, no other possibilities ever crossed my mind.
If anyone can find the interview that was cited, with the blood comment, that'd be interesting, and it would kinda make sense with the lyrics. It could very well be that they changed the concept to tarring & feathering (which would be really interesting, and would be a very profound display of Ayu thinking of the song's subject as being above her) as a result of switching the color of the liquid around her.

Saru your interpertation makes sense. If anyone knows what tarring and feathering means in Japanese society than do please share, because I can not view an Easterns artist's music through a Western lens. However, with that being said, the idea of tarring and feathering, for me atleast, goes back to the American Revolution when the US citizens would tar and feather those deemed as tories, or traitors to the American cause. So please excuse me if I am not to keen on the whole tarring and feathering idea, because I do not feel any stong sense of betrayal in this song. I do not mean to offend anyone but I just like to know where certain phrases or ideas originate. Great ideas!

In modern times the term "tarring & feathering" has become synonymous with punishment or humiliation. If someone says they've been "tarred & feathered", colloquially, that means they've been made to feel small or weak or embarrassed, as though they messed something up, and now they feel beneath those around them.
In the context of "Moments," this would come across as Ayu putting herself "beneath" the subject of the song, feeling as though she is powerless to help them as much as she longs to, and that she deserves punishment for this weakness. The lyrics do reflect this to some degree; that there is only so much Ayu can do to relieve the subject's pain, and she feels guilty about it. The pain in his heart is pain in hers; but even if she gave him the wings off her back, she only has one set of wings to give. Even if she blooms as a flower by his side, she can only bloom once before dying. Even if she approches him, he has thorns around him that prevent her from ever touching him. There's a tinge of guilt & remorse to these lyrics, and Ayu might feel she must be punished, tarred & feathered, for her human limitations. Keep in mind, this is ALL conjecture, I have no idea if this was the intention or not.

I had heard before, also, that it is blood, but the colour was changed for the ratings... Sorry. I can't quote, though.

Don't take this the wrong way Delirium-Zero, but I heart you, jk lol. No seriously though, great post. Like I said in my post, and you also said, there is a slight bit of remorse present in the song.
