Re: I am... CDL0910

From the DVD,
The last word before the bridge...

The word heard was "tere" but ayu's mouth was "teru"...

Did something happen there????

I mean, I LOVE that performance and was just rewatching the DVD when noticed...

IIRC, that was the case for the TV version too. [At least, hearing the 'tereeeeeeeeeee']

There was a wide shot of that part in the TV version though. There was a bit of a discussion about it when the CDL09-10 DVD came out.

Do you mean they edited in the 'tereee' instead of keeping the 'teruuu'? >_> Why would they do that anyway...I don't get it. It sounded fine as 'teru'.

A lot of people seem to think she lipsynched that portion for the reason that her lips aren't really making the shape you would normally see when you sing "tere" vs. "teru" but it's a bit weird for her to have just "messed up" during that part only, you know? IMO she just really overextended the "teru" making it sound like "tere" but it still -looked- like she was singing "teru". Usually if she actually has a track played back over her voice, it's EXTREMELY obvious and isn't just for one small part of a song but no one really ever knows for sure.

I always found she pronouced RU funnily depending on the song. Like in evolution. I think she was making the right now just with a funny mouth shape.

^Exactly what I thought. I've noticed this for years, there are certain sounds with her where it looks like her mouth is making a different sound, but it happens consistently.

I saw that and I can understand why that's confusing but as long as they left it on dvd it means that it's okay. Anyway even when tv version was out it was obvious that it was live

You should watch her earliest concerts, from the 2001-2002 era. She used to do that all the time then, this strange inunciation of the last syllable so it sounds really funny. Since I am... was a song from that era, I suspect she relapsed into that style of singing.

Try watching Dome Tour, it was really really obvious then. An example, B&G.

The chorus, she modifies the last word "darou" into "dare".
2nd verse, the last words "teru" is modified into "tere".

But her mouth still forms the "u".

Just my take.

Yeah, I always thought it sounded like Ayu was singing out of her nostrils during that era, haha.

Yeah, it always sounded more like an American English final "r" sound to me. For example, in the NEVER EVER studio track and live performances, I always hear "kimi wa...nani wo...inoRERRRRRRRRRRR!" I love that song and others from the era, but the slurred "u" sounds so out of place, it kinda pulls me out of the moment when I'm listening.
