Nah, no offence taken, you are totally entitled to your opinion. And honestly, I wouldn't want my husband to take my last name. Like, not even a little. It's cute for Ayu and her hubby, but not for me.

So that's where that screencap came from!
I don't see anything wrong with the video - it's just a fun video lots of young people post nowadays. OK I don't really see the point in it myself (must be an inside joke?) but it's not offensive. Boys just wanna have fun! |

That's totally sexist and I'm sorry, but sexism isn't an opinion. A big pop star marries a man who will never be able to achieve what she did and both adopt the last name of their marriage partner: THAT is real equality between a man and a woman who don't give a fuck about social conventions and just love each other. AHS really pisses me off sometimes. -.- |

^ I agree. The notion that him adopting his wife's last name = emasculating is sexist. IMO.

Who changed what? I am so not caught up on this whole husband #2 thing. Is he now Josh Hamasaki? Cause that's what I would do. hehe I'd change my last name to my super pop star singer spouse. His name is Josh right? God I am so behind on this...

^Probably. I was looking at that sausage fest video someone put up a few pages back and it was uploaded by "jOSH bLACKMAN". I think that's the account name. Someone said the video was directed by her husband so I guess I automatically assumed that was his name.

lulz yeah, it's sexist if you go and force it on everyone.
But people are entitled to their opinions and preferences in their own lives. I don't really care for my partner to adopt my name either because I tend to be traditional, and it's also somewhat emasculating to me too. I dont really give a fuck what ayu or anyone else does tho lol Or what their versions of masculine are ;P

If my love's last name was better than mine. I'd take their name. There was this guy I really liked years ago who I worked with whose last name is "hamberger". I was thinking to myself. "Damn if I was in his shoes I'd change my last name during marriage cause I'd hate to be "Mr. Hamberger". haha" So yeah. For me it depends.

![]() I think it's nice he changed his last name on facebook to add hers and I don't get why the hell are people making that a big deal... What's the problem with a married couple wanting to add each others last names to their own? Seriously people...

But I do care if someone like SilverOwl comes here and judges Ayu and her husband for the choice to adopt each other's last name. Someone just said that it's cute they did that and SilverOwl has nothing better to do than to jump in and to say it's not with a total sexist argument. If happiholic★ says "It's cute for Ayu and her hubby, but not for me" that's fine, she just stated she wouldn't do it but doesn't care if others do. SilverOwl on the contrary wasn't talking about herself/himself, she/he was judging someone she/he doesn't even know. |

When the hell did it become a sexist argument? It was one sentence and you go attacking me like I'm waving an anti equality flag. It was an opinion, I just like things more traditional. At least ask me what I meant before you attack me. I wouldn't like my guy to take my name, I would find it awkward. It was a general opinion. I never said that guy is emasculating himself and he is a rich widows toy boy. I was not judging anyone. Don't go jumping down my throat. Did you think I was some sweaty guy sitting behind a computer screen thinking woman should be tied to a kitchen sink, trust me, I' am very, very serious on women's rights. I understand that you found my words upsetting but next time ask me what I mean, have a go and say, are you being sexist or what? Don't just assume. Jeez, I leave and come back to find myself being blasted for a harmless comment on a harmless subject. You are completely singling me out, emi also finds it emasculating but I'm the one you shoot? I'm sorry you got upset by it, but next time ask me, don't stab me in the eye! Last edited by SilverOwl; 27th July 2014 at 07:13 PM. |

so does that mean that by a woman taking her husband's last name, it's de-feminizing?

That's why I wrote she/he.
You did. Quote:

Just for your knowledge: the reason why women were adopting the last name of their husband was (and somehow still is) that women were the property of their fathers but with marriage they became the property of their husbands. People just think it's emasculating because by adopting their wifes last name men show that they give a fuck about traditional maculinity and gender roles and that they don't need to be the head of their household. But if other women I just know from a forum, and therefore just by a few posts they wrote, like conservative norms for themselves which I consider sexist I would never tell them to change their lifes or to feel different about this subject. As long as they aren't generalizing anything and just talk about themselves it's totally fine with me. Neither emi nor happyholic were generalizing and just speaking for themselves - in contrast to you. Last edited by Chibi-Chan; 27th July 2014 at 08:08 PM. |
