Question [2003] What do you think of Vanessa Carlton??

I love her music, she is hot too. I think she is wayyyy better than Michelle Branch and Norah Jones too. I like her songs "Twilight", "Wanted", "Paradise", "Unsung", "Ordinary Day", and especially "A Thousand Miles". I think it was a big hit in Japan as well. So I like her

hot? nahhh..i dont like her too much..maybe not to the extent of "i hate her!" but i voted for that, because it was closer then "I LOVE HER!" i think..she has the talent..but she...tries to be.."too real and down to earth" if that makes any sense? like..because she cant dance..instead of just NOT DANCING, she makes a big scene of it in every interview, about how she tried to dance and has had dreams, but couldnt, so has to sit in a piano the whole video -_-. i will say though, her songs are quite catchy, and her piano and lyrical talent are high. her voice is..fake (not fake as in artificial -_-) to me though.. i'm weird.

I thought she was really talented when she debuted. Then I heard her REALLY offkey in two of her live performances, so I lost faith in her. And her debut song's lyrics didn't make any sense to me...

"If I could fall into the sky, do you think time would pass me by?"

What? Why didn't she just say, "If I fell into a hole, do you think time would pass me by?" and the answer would be DUH.

It doesn't matter if you fall into the sky, upward into the sky or whatever, time will ALWAYS pass you by. So, even though there could be a case made for poetic liberties, her lyrics are more convenience-based (i.e. they fit the melody, they rhymed!) than meaningful.

I voted she's okay. She is talented... I just don't like the way she pronounces some of her words...

well if you are going with the off key thing Ayu used to always sing offkey. But that doesn't mean she isn't talented... just an immature singer. That's what Vannessa is right now, she'll get better - just like Ayu did. I admire her because she was a GREAT ballet dancer. She should do broadway. She would make it big there.

But I don't care for her, just a few songs - they are good sleeping music though

Her music is kind of ordinary-sounding and I don't prefer it, personally. Hey, she's not made of plastic, but she's not likely to go down in history either.

she's alright, i'm a fan of piano music, so she gets a plus for that. not too shabby. nothing groundbreaking for me, either, though.

I think she's great! She hasn't done much stuff lately so i've kinda stopped listening to her but i still think she's a good singer and quite talented on the piano. I like most of the songs from her album.

Red face

Okay, I'll admit SOME of her live performances are a little offkey... but she can be amazing live most of the time. She was so-so at the Grammy's,but she was amazing at the Rock&Roll Hall Of Fame. I don't think her songs are too similar all the time... she only has 11-12 songs for god's sake. Just listen to "Wanted" and "Twilight" those 2 songs definitely took it for me. Her new song is featured in the new PS2 game Spy Hunter 2... Her new album, set to release in spring is going to have a gothy sound to it, she claims to have only 1 love song on the whole album, so i'm looking forward to some of her darker work.

*her lyrics i don't think are based on rhyme at all

you seem to just be basing your opinion of her on that one song "A Thousand Miles". It was her debut single, I don't think she planned to make it that meaningful, you know american mainstream music today, built on catchiness... She just wanted to make a name for herself.

I like Vanessa's music, I think she has a great talent...and her voice is...different. Lol.

Oh yeah, no WAY is Vanessa Carlton better than Michelle Branch. Now Michelle Branch I love, and is one of the few american artists I still listen too.

She's pretty good with the piano and I like that. Her songs are nice to listen to, but I don't find anything incredibly special about them. I think she could be really good if she breaks away from the ordinary, I guess.
