Question about vogue lyrics
Hi everyone!
Well, i was looking at vogue's lyrics and i don't really get the first line. "Kimi wo sakihokorou" (君を咲き誇ろう) I always thought it meant "You bloom fully"; but i just read it's also an old japanese saying that means "I'm proud of you". Is this true? I hope somebody who speaks japanese can help me out lol

Well, I'm not Japanese expert but it could be a metaphor?
When a flower blooms it is at its most impressive state, it is like a person coming to full maturity (physical or mental). It is also a time when people say they are proud of their achievements ie at a 21st birthday or graduation ceremony, where parents go up and ramble about their child’s achievements. So saying "you have bloomed [like a flower]" would mean "[you have reached maturity and] I am proud of you". |

Actually sakihokoru = to bloom fully, also it can mean stand in beauty / splendour
but 誇 in this word is a part of - hoko-ri(ru) - pride(to be proud) while saki - itself still save meaning "to bloom fully" so I guess that means "you bloom fully and proudly"?? well, it just making stronger, like you're not blooming fully but also you stand in beauty so everyone see this. I guess this was really transformed from old times, Ayu sometimes uses things that are not in use in Japan now, like writing of "wakaru" in some of her songs |

Oh i see. Thank u guys! It's just that, appareantely, the lyrics are about Max Matsuura.
Sth like thanks to him she was able to "bloom", but she's aware that one day her petals will fall down (which means she'll lose popularity as time goes by). Beautiful lyrics. Now i love even more this song lol
