MISIA will never be like ayu or namie whose face appeared on the TV for 24/7 (well, namie isnt anymore, but she used to)

MISIA never join and appeared in any music program nor in any CM

while chihiro is fade away, i think her popularity is gone because her hiatus...

Well, when you release several amazing singles, several times stronger than most of the present top-sellers, and they only sell 10K copies, I'd say that is at least a bit underrated, though yes, it's good that her concerts do well, etc but at the very least, she's no way as big as she used to be, while I think her music has gotten better over time.

I think MISIA is an amazing artist, and I think she deserves to sell better and is kinda underrated sometimes. But at the same time, her music, like the also amazing Chihiro Onitsuka, tends to get boring fast. They both do too many ballades, and I think the lack in variety or anything really 'WOW!' makes the 'strong-ness' fall flat.

Also, as great as MISIA is, I don't consider her an avex diva.... Not by the standards that seem to need to be met, at least. She never had the unbelievable popularity that the three definite divas had/have.
And Ai Otsuka....? Even though she had a GREAT few years back in the day, I don't see her as a diva at all. Not even the popularity she had can save it. That's just not her type.
Ami Suzuki was a fad, and she doesn't deserve "diva" status in any way, shape or form. Simple as that.
hitomi was kinda the **** back then, wasn't she? XP So, back then, yes, she could have been considered one. But now... Well, you see her.

Sooooo. As most of us have agreed, Ayu, Namie and Kuu are the divas. Ayu being the diva of divas, of course, hah. Don't know, honestly, who would be after her, though. :O If we go by current popularity, or even overall popularity or sales, obviously it would be Amuro. If we go by talent or even who's more diva-ish, Kumi wins by a long shot....... We'll just say they're tied. XP

I also think this is important for being considered one, that's why I don't think Ai Otsuka could be considered one. Even when she was pretty big during 2003-2006/7, she never adquired that "legend" status, nor did she influence J-Pop in any way. She's great (one of my favorite artists!) but not that big, imo. And her glory days didn't last that long (only 3, maybe 4 years? too little time). Ayu and Namie have been on the business for more than 10 years, and Kuu is getting close to that. I think that to be a diva you have to have been HUGE during at least 6-7 consecutive years, or have an enormous impact at a given time.

If we count outside of Avex, Utada Hikaru could apply too, but I think that she's more of a legend than of a diva.

In terms of sales, there's no competition. Namie Amuro has only sold half of what Ayu has sold, Kuu only half of what Namie has sold, but sales aren't everything XD

I do agree on MISIA though. Her music is very same-ish (TOO.MANY.BALLADS) and her music can be a bit uneven.

I don't anyone that's under-rated can be a diva. Mainly cause they're not "rated" enough

hmm well as alot have mentioned deff ayu namie and kuu. about two years ago i would have said ai otsuka (especially after her second album and her song planetarium being played in hana yori dango).lastly i would say Hitomi as well only because she's like a veteran (now that i think about it namie is kinda in the same boat the only difference is that she's still active.) with her popularity running from early 90's to the early 00's she was able to bounce back alot after breaks and children which alot of artists in Japan have a hard time doing that . but its also your perspective too, people like misia, as someone mentioned may not have the diva attitude with the phone/drink/makeup product endorsements but a very strong fan-base and presence. personally Chihiro onitsuka will always be a diva for me because of her artistry and you her voice is amazing

I only consider Ayu, Namie, and Kuu to be Avex Divas~

A diva is a celebrated female singer and they've been able to maintain their popularity throughout all of these years~

What about ICONIQ? Do you think she will become the new avex diva? Her debut album was quite successful and she has appeared in the cover of some fashion magazines too
