My Japanese TA hates Ayu

So I am majoring in Japanese at my college, and one of the teaching assistants for my current class hates Ayumi. Today in class, she called on me to answer a question of why I would want to go to Japan using a certain grammatical point....I said that because Ayu is famous and has great music, I'd like to see her in concert. Well, the TA looked pretty annoyed and was all "Ohhh...Hamasaki....I see...there are better artists"

I was like Pfffffttt.

Previously, my friend had told me that in a casual conversation with her, she had revealed that she hates Ayumi because she is so commercial, and likened her to Brittney Spears (like we haven't heard that one before ) I was surprised because this TA is a very fashionable dresser, so I thought she would appreciate Ayu's style and such.

So yeah, that's my story. Oh, but apparently she likes Utada Hikaru. Which is great, but Hikki just doesn't release enough new material to keep a rabid, addicted fan like me satisfied. With Ayu, there is always somethig new.

Well... everyone knows that Ayu looks better than Hikki... and probably better than your teaching assisitant... so no worries... She's probably jealous that she is so hugely popular...

hmm, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinions and such...at least she wasn't completely bashing her right? hehe I think my japanese teacher likes ayu because she has a poster of I am in her room and we had a question about ayu in an internet assignment...it was cool

Similar thing occurred to me a while back, a friend of mine, who's japanese, hates Ayu, and likes HIkki....She quoted what Namie said about ayu, " A make up Monster." I got so mad i just told her Ayu is a great singer and that's it.

Lol, a japanese friend of mine told me one day that Ayu's voice was zutazuta no. That's mean torn, ragged in english(if in correct... ) or he told me "she speaks like a duck". I dont make a big deal about this ^^

Ayu looks better than any of those Japanese, Korean, or even Chinese artists, it's just my personal opinion, some people like dai, boa, or utada better....well how old is your Japanese teacher anyway? Just wondering..

Well yeah I guess its her opinion... But for me Hikki is the kind of music that you need to be able to understand the words for it not to be boring...

Yea, so Ayu wears a lot of makeup......like Namie doesn't. *rolls eyes* She shouldn't say something bad about someone else when she does it more so herself.
Cuz, come on. When Namie was little, she was pretty ugly. I wonder how she all of a sudden got so pretty.

This is not to say I don't love Namie's music. I do. I love her music and her dances too.

This particular TA is in her early twenties, btw. Een though she dresses very trendy, she seems to be one of those "anti-pop culture" types. Which is probably what her main beef with Ayu is....she's just about everywhere.

I know some people.... *coughyouknowwhoyouarexxcough* who thinks that Namie doesn't sell her self with her image... and says AYU is a ****...

Like first of all... Ayu doesn't sing ****ty songs... nor does she "sell herself"....

People are jealous of Ayu... thats my consumption... Or they think shes just overrated which is what I find Hikki to be...

LOL Ayu's a make-up monster XD .. I agree .. Namie wears a TON of makeup as well ...

BUT .. when did Namie say that about Ayu?

This is completely true. And it's not like she pretends she's NOT a huge part of the consumer culture. She said herself "It is necessary that I am viewed as a product. I am a product." She's not like other "artists" who pretend they actually have talent. She doesn't inflate her ego--if anything, she downplays herself. And her music is totally not bubblegum, throwaway pop.

Namie shouldn't speak too loudly though .. I can't believe she slept with that guy from TRF or whatever o.O ... at least that's what I read in her bio .. they had a kid together or something .. but still .. that man's ugly as hell o.O
