They'd literally worship Hyuna and call other female K-Pop group rappers (like Miryo and CL) dykes; I kid you not. It's just...disgusting. It honestly lead to me disliking 4minute, as crazy as that sounds. A similar thing happened to me with Hikki because of some really extreme fans, but Hikki's the only Japanese artist that's happened to me with. With K-Pop, I practically can't even listen to or watch SNSD because all I can think of is their craziest fans (which seems to be about 75% of them) and how freakily obsessed they are. Some people just need to calm the **** down.

there are crazies in pretty much every fandom, but kpop as a whole seems to take the cake. I don't ever read the comments on allkpop, kpop-related YouTube videos, etc. because there is always so much hyperbolic praise of the artist(s), anti-fans hating on every aspect of the artist(s) and tons of vitriol being spewed by both sides to whoever opposes their opinion; that is extremely off-putting.
I understand that fans are often overly enthusiastic about their favorites (I definitely can be), but a lot can't show support for their faves without first putting every other similar group/idol down in the process - as well as anyone else who has opposing views. I don't mean to generalize the entire fandom, because I know there are a lot of normal, sane fans, but the crazy ones seem to ruin all the fun for everybody.

I have to agree! Its crazy how intense these fans can get, and also
they expect their idols to be perfect, if they do anything they dont like, like if a girl idol wears shorts that are too short or shows off too much skin they totally rip on her and destroy, or if they forget to say thank you on a tv show or something where they are not perfect they get destroyed... poor idols...

This is going back a few pages but someone mentioned that Jpop is more hostile to Kpop than Kpop is to Jpop.
This is kinda stating the obvious, but for (some) Jpop fans, the success of Korean artists in Japan in an intrusion, or making Japanese artists unable to succeed and overlooked etc... However, I've seen (again, some) Kpop fans be more open - their favourite act making a debut in Japan is opportunity and development, they recognise that they can make more money there. However, (some) also see this as moving away and not being a loyal, I've seen more of the first though. Or maybe I've been looking in nicer places based on some of these posts... What I find funny is that while Kpop acts expanding into Japan is welcomed by (here mostly Western) fans of Kpop, expansion into America is slaughtered and insulted, which I find bemusing. I guess this goes back to listening to Kpop because it's not American (or Western, for non-US fans) rather than liking the music. And, as somebody mentioned, they find most of the "crazy" (Western) fans to be younger/early teens, and I guess we all thought that way when we were 13/14. I guess this is because the 10% that are crazy get more exposure than the normal 90%. And does anybody have links to the articles about the blood letters and glue drink? I'd like to read about them to see how much of it is actually sensationalism.

Omgg reading this thread made me go O_O. Haha.
It reminded me of an interview Utada did in English for some radio station where she talked about how she had an entire warehouse storage place for things that her fans gave her. She was talking about how she opened a box and was like "What the hell is all this?" and she realized it was the stuff that her staff had seized in advance and labelled as like 'dangerous fans' or something and that she opened a couple of things and people had sent her knives and stuff. There are some really crazy fans out there. Spoiler:

I'm a kpop fan too. If I ever get delusional or start doing crazy things etc. please hit me xD Except for when it comes to my marriage with Big Bang's T.O.P xD
But yeah I agree, there are some crazy fans out there.

I'm a big TVXQ fan and after the lawsuit news hit... oh dear lord... up in till now, the drama is horrible that unfortunately... I began to isolate myself from the fandom. Then I noticed it happens in a lot of other k-pop fandoms.
But I don't listen to a lot of k-pop. I think I listen more to Korean rock indies. But I intend to stay away from the drama and just spazz with close friends. And wow... I never heard the blood letter before... now I'm freaked out. O_O Last edited by sesshy; 27th July 2011 at 07:51 PM.

you're not alone. i dont get why they are extremely obsessed to their favourite artist and so sarcastic. i dont like to debate with them so i just leave them alone. thats why i never attracted to korean song anymore.

i totally agree about the kpop fans thing. i get people who say they won't even go near like WGs, 2NE1 etc cause they try making one little comment, maybe like how they didn't quite like one small particular thing and all the fans jump all over him/her.
I'll admit I like a few kpop artists. Most are solo artists, but I keep my interests to a reasonable level. I'm actually scared of that sort of thing starting here if any of them managed to be successful in all honesty.

With J-pop, just with females idols, the major mainstream idol groups nowadays are under the AKB48 umbrella and before them it was Momosu and all their affiliated acts years before. Very few hit it big and most stay obscure indie acts. With K-pop, most of the major acts are idols and idol fans have a reputation for having a bit of a control problem over the idols they support. The image of that idol within their mind is pure and perfect and they prefer it to stay that way (hence the name). They'll dig up dirt to try to tarnish another idol's reputation just so their favorite within the group can get ahead or even dig up dirt on or bash on their own favorite idol to 'punish' her... it's some freaky need to try to have some power or control in the fandom other then with just their wallets. But again, I've never seen it as bad as I've seen it in the K-pop fandom so irdk.

as someone mentioned above while all cultures have their crazies when it comes to fandom, kpop takes the cake. There's a reason why alot of artists/actors commit suicide. at the same time though dont let a kpop artist go to Japan and do something wrong They'll get down right harrassed by netizens,as is the case with kim tae hee right now. The poor girl just doesnt deserve it either

So the Koreans are pissed off that she pointed to the island saying it was Japan....and the Japanese are pissed off that she was saying the island was Korean. Yeah. They both sound like real winners. And people say that the disputes and racism between Korea and Japan are over. uh huh. SURE. Maybe in Happy Magical Ayu Land.

Tbh their reasons for hating her don't make sense at all. She's Korean so of course she thinks Dokdo belongs to her country, how does that make her anti-Japan WTF. And the sad thing is that she's acting in a drama where a Korean woman and a Japanese man fall in love so =S I wish both countries would let go of their prejudice for one second and try to accept each other.
