Poor Ayu, I really hope she's alright. I also hope they separated amicably. There's nothing worse than hating the person who you shared your life with.

Agreed. Ayu tried that already and it didn't work out for her, and given that Tyson was a medical student...if he wants to be an MD, staying in the states would really be the only option for him. Just to get his language skills to the point where they'd need to be to obtain a medical license in Japan would take ages.

I'm not married but my boyfriend and I are essentially doing a lite version of a long distance relationship (we see each other once every 7-10 days) and that's hard enough. I can't imagine the strain they must have been under trying to make it work with an ocean between them. I hope they're both getting the support they need to help them through this period of difficulty.

I think Ayu will be OK, she is a strong person, but I was expecting this. Like Aderianu said one of them needed to sacrifice everything and move into another country and I think they didn't consider this when they got married. And If I'm not mistaken they didn't known each other for a long time before they got married. It was like 6 months or something like that. They could had a nice relationship without getting married.

Maybe my oppinion is something weird but real love means to sacrifice something for the person you trully love and maybe their love wasn't soo deep.

My heart felt a bit sad reading this- I hoped Ayu had really found someone. But at the same time, when she introduced him and said he was an American medical student, I did worry that at some point he would be going for a career in America and Ayu is probably going to stay more Japan based and I wondered how that would work. The media is going to tear into her for this but sometimes, no matter how much you love someone, the practicalities get in the way and it can't work.

I must admit I am surprised by this news.
It must be painful for Ayu to have another relationship not work out. But she is strong and will get through it I believe.
For Ayu, I think she would need someone who is at least in Japan 24/7 and who is tolerant of her career because that will always be her biggest passion in life.
But as others have said, we don't know why they choose to separate

I understand if she wants a foreigner or someone not familiar with her success, but she does make it awfully hard for herself with these long distance relationships. That was one of the main problems with Mannie and we thought she got it figured out this time.

Hopefully she can not rush into marriage next time and take her time to date someone.

Man some of you guys are really mean :/ Maybe Ayu and Tyson realized they're just better off friends instead of lovers, she did say it was mutual. It does take two people to make a relationship (of any kind) work. I feel bad for both of them. The few pictures we saw of them (and few things Ayu said about him) they seemed happy together.
