How many songs can you sing?

though i dun understand pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~ without translation.... but for songs.. i can easily memorise it after a few times without any lyrics or anything jus the music i can jsut sing... practically i can all of ayu song except for some: like two of us, and the single she released before she was in avex...^^

i personally think the easiest way to sing ayu's songs (or any japanese song for that matter) is to 1) Learn how to pronounce things in japanese. This is the KEY in being able to sing correctly. Singing in japanese doesnt necessarily require you to know japanese (just so you dont get scared or anything ^^; lol)

Then, after you've pretty much mastered the pronounciation, listen to the song a little bit, get the feel of it, note how fast/slow the song is, just to know the song's rhythm. Then find the lyrics for it. A good site for lyrics is http://ayumi.primenova.com. Listen to the song, while studying the lyrics, to see how they match up.

Then try singing along with Ayu using the lyrics to guide you. If you keep doing this, you'll eventually have the song memorized ^^

I know ALL the lyrics to The Love Bug by M-Flo and BoA, just because the English lyrics got me into the "flo" (ehehehehe bad pun i know ) of the Korean ones

The pronounciation for Japanese is very very very easy. I'm (well, at least i consider myself to be ) a pro at pronounciation.

It helps when you listen to music a lot, i picked up most of the pronounciation rules doing that.

hmmmm, easier then the english? I hope so. I have noticed that Japanese seems to be a very good language for singing, as everything is in sylables (sp? I should learn to read and write is Japanese, at least then i'd be able to at least spell in one language )

I only notice this because chinese pop...errr is bad (to me, anyways)

the harder things i guess is to know that when you see an "f" technically its supposed to be pronounced like an "h", but a lot of japanese singers ive noticed dont do this.

Also, if you see double "n"s, or one on the end of a word, then you pronounce it like a separate syllable. ex:

ko-n-na
i-chi-ba-n

when you see "ai" you pronounce them as separate syllables, as an american short "o" then a long "e".

when you see 2 "t"s after a vowel then hold the vowel a little longer

motto -> mo-o-to

There's just a few ^_^ if my examples are wrong please correct me someone ^^;

We went over this in phonetics class and it really helped me with the pronunciation.. the japanese 'fu/hu' is a 'bilabial fricative' meaning you pronouce it with your two lips. Think of how you articulate an 'f', with your top teeth and bottom lip, then but try dong the same thing with your two lips. Hope this helps

I can correct a little.

The 'f' isn't really an 'h'. It's a light blowing of air between the upper lip and lower teeth(or between your lips alone). It's a very soft sound. You can hear this sometimes in singing. But sometimes it also sounds hard. This is just because language changes when it's sung. If you pick up the sound from speaking, it's most often heard as I described.

The double 'n' means you just hold the 'n' sound out little bit. And 'n' at the end of a word is generally pronounced in the back of the throat. A kind of nasal sound.

'ai' isn't generally pronounced as two sounds, but as one. Sounding like the English word 'eye'. In music, you often hear it pronounced as two sounds so the the music flows. Then, it is pronounced as 'ah-ee'.


For some other tips oin Japanese sounds. There is no Japanese 'l'. The closest thing they have is the 'r' sound. which in music often sounds just like an 'l'. In speaking, and in some instances of music, the 'r' sounds like a cross between an 'l' and a very light 'd'.

The 'u' on the end of words is often left off. It isn't really gone, but the sound is so quiet that you can barely hear it. (A perfect example of this is Gackt's name. It's pronounced ga-ku-to. The 'to' on the end is always easy to hear, but the 'u' in 'ku' is whispered. But, if you listen to his name said over a couple of times you can actually hear it.)

Below, I've listed pronounciations of the Japanese vowels.

a - 'ah' as in saw
e - 'eh' as in let
i - 'ee' as in see
o - 'oh' as in no
u - 'oo' as in sue
