How popular is Ayu around where u live?

well i live in Australia and yeah she's unknown here but i reckon any asians who listens to Japanese music would know Ayu...

my sister lives in Taiwan and she told me that she thinks Ayu is currently the most popular Japanese singer over there and it's been like that for years~ yay i feel happy when she told me that ....oh and she said Boa and Namie is probably 2nd

so how popular is Ayu where u live? is Ayu the most popular Japanese in Malaysia, Phillipines, Hong Kong....etc?

Not really popular here, and very few people know her... Except a guy who went to my school, i had him on my msn evern tho i hardly knew him, and one day i used ayu as a display picture..And he was like "Hey isnt that Ayu?" And he told me that he was a fan of her and then told me about the songs he liked etc, thats kinda cool. And some of her songs are on trance cd's here etc... I dunno, i have never heard an ayu song anywhere, like in a store or on a club...

That reminds me of something funny!

Yesterday when i was laying on my couch, watching TV, i was half awake, half asleep, and my cell phone rang (I use Fly High mp3 as a ringtone) And on the TV it was Gilmore girls, and they were at that asian girls house, and when my phone rang, i thought it was that asian girl playing Ayu on her cd player... I freaked out!! Then i figured out it was my cell phone, lol...

"ayumi hamasaki? Japanese music? what the heck, have you ever thought about listening to normal music?"

And to people who actually heard me listening to it: "Oh no, you're gonna listen to those cats meowing once again "

That's the kind of reaction I would get from people from my country, just to show how much of popular ayui is here *sarcasm*

Popular? Not at all...

A lot of the rock peoples here like Dir en grey though, which I find to be strange cause there's much better J-Metal bands out there...

Only Japanophiles, Inuyasha fans, and people who know me seem to know her around here.

I mean...I sang Dearest with a friend at a talent show about a year ago...and we gave a little introduction right? And look:

My friend: This is a song called "Dearest", by a Japanese singer named Ayumi Hamasaki...
Audience: Who? Say what? *laugh hysterically*

Yeeeah. ~_~;; Case in point, pretty unknown.

Same here! (mainly the cats part...) lol people here in Brazil don't know asian music. The japanese music they might know is enka ... so you start talking about japanese music and they say "yeah, kimono and old women singing"

She's not very popular around here where I live and I live in Indiana but I've gotten my b/f and his friends into her somewhat. Not many people I talk to, know about her that much but they've heard of her.

in my place? i think ayu's the most popular japanese singer in here..
but, in here, they dont like the jpop..
usually they choose cpop better than jpop/kpop..

so,, my classmates know ayu, if only they read magazines,
and find some ayu's pics..n they say..
"wow,, is she ayumi from japan? she's pretty.." maybe that kinda words..

about the cds? its very xpensive here.. but i got all ayu's singles n albums..
either her concert tour dvds n vcds... *empty wallet..*

Same here. Though her M Above and Beyond Remix was played several times on our local radio station and they mentioned that it' s a japanese singer Ayu.

Not popular here at all, the only people here that even just heard of here are people who are into anime. Then there's some people who aren't really and just like Jpop, like me, and one of my best friends. But not a lot.

I live in Alabama, so the answer is obvious. She is completely unknown here. Maybe a whole .00001% of the population actually listens to her here.
