It's sad, I don't know anyone who likes Ayu here. Oh sure, when someone borrows my music they're interested....for two seconds. That sucks. I wish there was a bigger J-Pop/J-Rock fanbase here. I feel so alone!

She has a lot of fans in Brazil.
But unfornatully isn't enough to be "classified" as a popular artist around here, some people just thinks that listen to japanese music is weird.... x.x'

she's not popular at all here in general , but actually she's really well-known among trance fans. most people agree "M Above & Beoynd Remix" is the best remix by Above & Beoynd (even tho kinda many prefer the non-vocal versions ) and the M EP vinyl thing is one of the best trance out there.

and I can find Ayu's music in a way even at the nearest supermarket , tho only trance remixes on trance-compilation albums lol

Only Japanophiles, Inuyasha fans, and people who know me seem to know her around here.
yeah, even some of my friends didn't know who's singing Dearest!! and, my friends who likes anime doesn't not know about her too!! too bad... T_T
and, my situation (Jakarta, Indonesia) is the same like this:

Quote:
"ayumi hamasaki? Japanese music? what the heck, have you ever thought about listening to normal music?"
this is my friends.... i hear "what they called normal music" too, but still.....

Quote:
And to people who actually heard me listening to it: "Oh no, you're gonna listen to those cats meowing once again "
this is my parents...... they almost saying like that every time they heard Ayu / any Japanese singer sang on my computer. My father talks less than my mom though...
Quote:
That's the kind of reaction I would get from people from my country, just to show how much of popular ayui is here *sarcasm*
still, people here know Utada Hikaru better than Ayumi, becuase Hikki sang on Kingdom Hearts, and Ayu only sang (AFAIK) on Thousand Arms, a cool game but less popularity.......

sad, huh? T_T

that's why t'm so glad when i've founded this site, thanks ^^

Ayu is pretty popular around here, although sometimes her popularity is on the same level like those of Morning Musume, for example. although, she's got a big fanbase here. most the fans stem out from being anime fans, who then grew to love Jpop. and when discovering Jpop for the first time, it's unavoidable to discover Ayu in the beginning.

Yeah, I've seen alot of trance cd's here that have Ayu remixes on them... But that's pretty much it really... I dont even bother to tell my friends about the wonderful world of ayu, cuz they all know i like her, so i think they're kinda sick of it already lol..Even though they actually like som of the songs, like Daybreak HAL's remix... And my sister was transferring songs to her mp3 player a while ago, and she transferred Real Me, and now all her friends dig it,hehe Kinda cool They're all 12 year olds tho^^;

Hiya everyone,i live in the in the cool and trendy UNITE'd Kingdom and i think i can safely say i don't think ANYONE has heard the aural joy that is AYU,quite sad really but then again if Ayu were popular here in six months she probably wouldn't be.If you see what i mean,we go through a lot of fashion/music trends, and in a perversley British way i'm glad.

^ greetings 2 the fellow brit...
haha, cool & trendy?? dude, remember this is a country that put a teletubbies tune at the top of our charts haha, jokes...
i dont think there is no way ayu could ever break the uk unless she undertook like really intensive elocution classes so her pronunciation was flawless, and even then shed have to have a certain je ne sais quois to make her stand out from everyone else... i think itd be cooler if she had an underground following haha...
i would LOVE to see sasha remix her, that would be frellin awesome... and i tink some of her tunes would suit a drum n bass remix also...
is there anywhere on this site that gives like a record of how many people from each respective country are here??? id be interested to see how many uk members there are dakedo...

hhaa...i completely understand wat u feel impact!!

maybe the very few that listen to jpop knows her...

most ppl just see her as a doll that tends to look pretty and lot of make up...

itz sad that they just don't see the substance in her

I live in California, and my school is a public school, but it's over 40% asian. Sadly, most people here don't listen to Ayu... almost all the guys are in love with BoA (I like her too, but not nearly as much as I like Ayu), and most of the girls listen to Edison, Jay Chow (is that how you spell his name? Obviously, i don't listen to him... lol), BoA, Mai Kuraki, and Hikaru Utada. Sigh... I've tried to incorporate Ayu into the school, but so far I only know 3 other Ayu nuts.

i used to the only AYU nuts way back around 1999 and 2000 in sch... =\ which everybody was like deserting me coz they think i am very weird.... or something.. BUT now!! its different!! muhahaha... a lot of people likes her now.. is like no one dont know her.. she is really popular here!! ^^ so now i also have a lot of friends who likes her.. i think it is a lot... and on tv.. sometimes, we get to hear part of her songs during commercials... i remember once when i saw a commercial on a drama but the background music was ayu's latest album 'my story' songs..... even though the original drama doesnt have a song which is ayu's!! i was so thrilled!! so i guess this is ayu's popularity in singapore ^^
