(miss)understood and RAINBOW: Turning Points for Fans?
I was just thinking about this the other day.
I've seen around that alot of people say that they, or someone they know, stopped listening to Ayu when RAINBOW came out, and I know that alot of people think that is her weakest album (after ASFXX of course, but I also notice that people don't particularly pay attention to that album). Now, (miss)understood has been out for a while, and there have been plenty of discussions on it, and I've also noticed that many people aren't exactly fond of her new style. Do you think that the (miss)understood album will become another RAINBOW, and another point where people stop listening to Ayu?

Wouldn't that be MY STORY? I actually thought (miss)understood acceptance in this forum was higher than that of MY STORY

A lot of people also became fans when RAINBOW was released. I was one of them

I agree with RAINBOW because I was also a victim. It was until Memorial address when I was like "Wow great stuff!" and then I started appreciating her music more. But I didn't feel that way with (m)u, or with MY STORY for that matter.

That is quite possible. At first MU is really likable among fans (from my observation) then it just goes downhill. And a majority dislike RAINBOW also...though I don't now if they actually stopped listening after that..
But personally I love the RAINBOW album, and it's my favorite Ayu album that keeps me interested for ages to come. Time is still needed for MU to grow on me, though.

I like (miss)understood a lot better than I like MY STORY, and I adore MY STORY. GEO doesn't really matter to me, it's not like Ayu is destroyed forever because of him.
And I think RAINBOW is a great album, I was listening to it the other day, and it's spectacular. It would take a lot for me to stop liking Ayu just because of her music. |

(M)U is more of a turning point I think, because the album doesn't seem to have a specific atmosphere like her previous albums. (M)U just feels fresh and it has lots of variety. Plus it isn't as depressing as My Story. As for Rainbow I don't know.. Never heard the full CD.

In my opinion, (miss)understood had some really powerful singles (STEP you / is this LOVE?, fairyland c/w alterna, HEAVEN, Bold&Delicious / Pride), but the album tracks are a bit weaker. But maybe when the Arena Tour 2006 is released people will like it more.
MY STORY was the other way around; I like the album as a whole, but the singles (moments, inspire c/w game, carols) were small and weak singles to me. |

yea, while some ppl reckon they stop listening to her music, new ppl discover ayu all the time too. im like cybermoomba, i became a fan when rainbow was released, shortly after i discovered ayu, and i thought the album was the best thing since sliced bread!

i have to admit that i felt disgusted after listening to RAINBOW. but why is MY STORY worse than (miss) understood? look at her arena tour 2005 MY STORY. it's so touching..
the songs in (miss) understood are good! it's just a different style. there are still as perfect as her previous songs. |

(m)u is a turning point for me, just before it was released, with the B&D single, and just after it, with the Startin' single, I hated those singles and I didn't buy either. When the possibility of new material for new panasonic products comes up, I'm just not as interested as I once was. I just don't know what to expect, because the recent single releases have been her weakest.

Personally I think every album could have been turning points for fans, whether it's due to a radical change in style or due to stuff sounding the same for too long. Though I have to say (m)u would be a more possible one because it was just so different from what we had expected, with the sudden (and last-minute) inclusion of a numer of GEO's works. RAINBOW was simply not as good as her previous albums had promised, but stylewise I thought it wasn't very different from stuff prior to it, so I guess fans would be more comfortable with that compared to (m)u.

Looking at her domestic sales, it seems that (m) u IS a major turning point. Abroad, it's very hard to decide.

I heard quite the opposite; many people became fans through Rainbow. If anything, i think My Story was a worse album than Miss Understood. I don't think that it will be another Rainbow.
