The meaning of the name ayumi

i read somewhere that ayu's real name is Hamasaki Kurumi, so Ayumi must have a meaning of sort if she came up with one? or maybe she just picked it cuz it sounded cute
i know in chinese they write ayumi in kanji and it means 'step'...but i dont think these are right.

btw it's my first post here so hi everyone...it's a cool site! and oh yeh how do you put up pics? as in for the msg and for the member profile..like the thumb size ones, thanx alot
