...and solo artists and bands are not absent in Korea, you just don't hear about them as much because the idol following is significantly larger (and more vocal) than the entire Jpop fandom, combine this with the companies actively promoting overseas in Asia and the world, and of course the groups and bands are going to be overshadowed. They are there, go look for them.

I agree and that's prolly why I don't mind Kara either, even though I don't listen to them.
I am aware that solo artists still exist in Korea, but yeah considering how extreme is the idol following it's kinda of normal that you hear little about them if you're not really into kpop. As I said I don't really listen to KPOP, besides BoA's Korean stuff, but I've been listening to her since 2004, so I don't feel the need to go look for more Korean stuff
Still so many of my used-to-be-JROCK-fans friends from Belgrade have switched to kpop now and they are all about boy idols >_>
As for 2NE1 I dunno about their lyrics as I never looked them up, as I never liked a single song I've heard, because I simply disliked their, although different, to me not very appealing music.
