Well, personally I don't think it's because of overuse. Unfortunately, to me, TKs older works are the opposite of wine and scotch, the older, the worse. But are you saying this based on your impressions after hearing his stuff now or did you listen to him back in the 90's? There's a huge difference.

Is somewhat like that staple 80's sound based on Michael Jackson's classics that everyone was copying back them... It was/is so used everywhere by everyone that is hard to use it nowadays without sounding old...
