Not really. The new batch of Ayu songs attract immediate attention but divides her fans. They're still good. Compared to M, Startin/Born To Be/Step You had more mixed reactions, and the people who thought it was good were obsessed with the song while the people who hated it really loathed it. M on the other hand, generated similar reactions to everybody. It was either "Oh good song" or "meh, boring" to the masses. Probably you don't really need mega-catchy song to strike gold, just a normal good one?

The level of negativity in this forum has gotten so bad, that I'm ready to get the hell out of here and spend more time in a gentler forum where most of those who post are really Ayu no.1 fans.
You're not the only one with that taste, me too.. However, negativity provokes conflicting thoughts, and this in turn creates more ideas. So its actually better than going to a place where everyone agrees with everything. Scary, a place with zero drama is like:

Fan 1: Wasn't Teens awesome?
Fan 2: Yes! Wasn't Humming 7/4 awesome?
Fan 3: Yes! Wasn't Dearest awesome?
Fan 1: Yes! Wasn't I Am... awesome?
Fan 2: Yes! Wasn't Startin' awesome?
