"ever free" is almost certainly not about the death of her grandmother. Its about a personal transition, refrencing the changes and loses she felt/foresaw in the trilogy and accepting them in a more positive way. Or rather, just letting whatever may happen happen and not to stress about it all so much and ruin the present.

In her song "Naturally", on "I am...", she's made a song which looks back at her life in relation to her career from her debut to the 'present' (2001, then) and at one point she refrences a period of her career when she was "taking the matter to seriously (sic)" - I've always been certain this is a refrence to A and the Trilogy. But she could never have written such relaxed lyrics without having written the songs of A and the Trilogy and resolved it all with "ever free". Everyone knows this already but "ever free" is probably one of the most important things an Ayu fan should know about.
