What if JEWEL was a single?

I guess we could rewrite the story if JEWEL was released as a single after a-nation, IF ayu's eye didn't get injured. Honestly I feel Secret would have doing better if ayu released JEWEL and/or with 1 LOVE during the end of the summer (probly the end of August?). It seems like there was a break between BLUE BIRD and Secret and there was nothing to build up the hype for the album release. In fact, the hype was cracked during ayu's eye injury. So to me it seems like all the promotion was rushed out all of the sudden a month before the album release, and it could not create a mega heat in Japan..

I think that the reason JEWEL and 1 LOVE were not a double a-side was because by the time she had decided to make Secret a full-length album, it was too close to the release to release a single. People wouldn't have bought the single and would've just waited for the album. Therefore, it would've been a waste of money for avex. Plus, if Secret was kept at mini album status momentum then would've been the only new song. XD

Had Secret been a full album from the start, it probably would've been a single. It could've been a nice re-cut single though, come to think of it. JEWEL/1 LOVE/momentum CD+DVD with a few remixes or acoustic versions.

They could've marketed a diamond shaped music box with it that played a medley of JEWEL. *__*

Now THAT'S impressive. o_o And it sounds totally plausible, too.

i always figured that if JEWEL was released as a single then it would've gotten a different treatment. the piano is nice and simple and it fits perfectly into the Secret album (like teddy bear with Duty), but at the same time i think that was just the demo version of the song. if it was gonna be a single, then ayu probably would've given it the standard winter ballad treatment with more band instruments and a louder chorus (No way to say, CAROLS, Heaven for example)... then JEWEL would've blended with the rest of them. if this was true then i guess it's a good thing, this makes JEWEL that more special, but at the same time i would've liked to have an instrumental for this song... partially cuz then someone could utagoe this and we'd get a right and proper vocal track haha. and yeah 1 LOVE would've been paired up with it of course... and that's just perfect IMO so i have nothing to say for that haha

We never know if Secret was intend to be a mini album in the beginning. Her eye injury basically postponed her work. Panasonic cms were shown in August I think, so it's likely that the single would be released between the end of August and the mid of September. Also, if the single was released, I think the album release date would have been shifted further as well. Everything after BLUE BIRD would be different than what we actually see.

I wish JEWEL was a single. I guess it's too late now, haha.

Well I remember being very excited about the JEWEL/1LOVE single and I sincerely think that if ayu had the thime to finish the videos she could as well have released the single along with the album.

The last time she did that was back on the LOVEppears era with the appears single precisely, and then when I knew the single was to be cancelled I got very sad because I had already heard the songs and I sooooo wanted a 1 LOVE instrumental and the JEWEL one as well (more the 1 LOVE than the other)

I also got bugged when I heard that Secret was going to end up being a mini album because I wanted more new ayu songs, plus she barely promoted it with few singles (only 2!!) and I don't think she would have sold not even half what Memorial Address sold (nowadays reaching that number of sales is decent XDD).

Jewel as a single.... It would be her best single since & for me... Why? Well, she promoted the song very well on the best and busiest period of the year for her due to the many TV specials... And the song is one of Ayu's best. Appart from being a direct #1, it would have sold better than some of her previous singles for me.
