Ayu's physique

I think ayu gained some weight during GUILTY era (quite obvious during CDL 2007-2008) and the first half of year 2008 (judging from the photos taken from at08 performances in japan) but recently ayu slimed down again..so YAY. However gaining some weight made ayu looked somewhat cuter.

This shouldn't really be a question of age either because if you are taking care of yourself with diet and excersize, her being 30 shouldn't be an issue in this as 30 really isn't that old yet.

Not necessarily. It becomes harder and harder to lose weight as you get older, plus your metabolism slows down when you're in your 20s (hence why you see people from high school that, even at age 25 or so, are significantly chubbier than what they used to be at 18). So it is a matter of age

There have been several before, yes. Apparently it's an amazing topic of discussion that comes up a few times every year... I don't think there's ever been a time where I would ever call her "fat" though, that's for sure.

She gained some weight since end of last year/early this year. Shes slimmed down a lot the past few months and her physique looks as good as her 2005/2006 days. I made the hypothesis in previous threads that her weight gain might have been contributed to the loss of her friend. People tend to eat more and be less physically active during depressed times

How can people notice such little change in her body? I've never once thought of Ayu as chubby or fat. She gains a few pounds and people feel the need to make a thread about it.

if you read carefully, the first post of this thread never said she's "fat" or "chubby"..just said she "gained some weight"..and the purpose of this thread is to discuss why she gained some weight as indicated on the first post, not if she is fat or not

I see this weight discussion same as discussing why she changed her hairstyle, or her use of certain dancers...afterall, ayu presents to us not only with her music, but also her image which is copied and admired by so many...therefore ayu's lyrics, music, appearance, attitude etc makes up the ayu that we like

but if this thread is offensive to some initiates, staff feel free to delete it and I'll know better to shut up next time

No no. I'm not trying to attack you or anything. I just get kind of annoyed when people point out her weight. It could be because of stress, her period or anything. I know it's gross to think about but women do look like they've gained a bunch of pounds when they're menstruating. I wish I looked as fit as her, but I don't think it's a bad thing that she's gained a few pounds. Atleast she's not unhealthy-skinny, right?

I suck at seeing if someone gained or lost weight.Anyway,I thought she made that diet with running and liquids?

Diet with running and liquids... No offense but that sounds disgusting. I could never do that. Can you imagine, your stomach is growling for the good stuff and you drink spinach juice and that's that.

30 is nowhere near old but we musn't discount the fact that women's metabolism is nowhere like a guy's. I believe our metabolic peak is around our final growing stages and then it starts declining. You eat the same amount as before and then you realize you are gaining weight and it's IRRITATING. I had that problem in 2 transitions of my life, between 14 (when i stopped growing) -15 and 19-20. I believe that ayu's metabolism is not like before and declines gradually too. She just has to find the right food intake and exercise balance if she wants to maintain her weight.

There's no doubt that Ayu looks physically different. I wouldn't go so far to say she's "fat", but I can see a shift in her weight.

She's probably not as active at the moment as she would usually be. yes, she's doing more performances but the last 18 months have been pretty hectic and she has had a lot of sad news recently. I wouldn't be surprised if she is eating less healthy foods and not exercising as much.

When she feels better in her mind I'm sure she'll start working out more.

Personally, I think it's weight gain. Her weight has been fluctuating ever since she came back from the US before Secret's release. The last time we saw her at her 28th birthday, she was at her "normal" weight, and when she started promoting JEWEL it looked like she put a few on. It's been going up and down since then. She got back down to her "normal" weight around the time she recorded talkin' 2 myself, but by the time she came back to Japan and starting promoting it live, whatever she lost was gained back.

Though her state of muscle tone had varied, she was always very thin from her debut to late 2006. Since then it's been going up and down. I don't think it's a matter of a lack of exercise or overeating, because when you look at the amount of energy that's put into touring (i.e., performing and all the training/practice that's done beforehand) anything she ate/drank would be burned off. Her job entails a very active lifestyle.

In my eyes, Ayu can do no wrong and will always look beautiful, but I think more should be done to accommodate costumes to her curvier figure. The silver outfit she wore at this year's a+nation for Mirrorcle World didn't really do much for her midsection; while the CDTV equivalent of the performance looked stunning.

from last year... for her single "talkin' 2 myself", she looked soo chubby in her TV performance and also in a-nation 07.

I don't think this is a big problem

she is not FAT or anything like that

and I also think that she is very stressed and she needs a long long rest...

I would give her a year to recover herself and come back with more power than ever!!

She's definitely heavier than before. Comparing her past PVs like evolution to present ones like Mirrorcle World, her arms are more rounded and her chest is more filled up. Isn't that how a girl's supposed to look? I think it's a great look. But she should be careful not to gain too much weight since ayu seems to tend to put on in the upper body area which is more obvious.

Who said it was a big concern? This is just a chat thread and topics like these tend to come up if Ayu News is slow because there's less to talk about.

Honestly I think Ayu's weight is Ayu's business. I know this thread is made for only discussion about her weight, but I look at discussing weight differently than discussing her hair or her nails. I think weight is a little more of a sensitive topic than other things. I'm not trying to be rude though. ^^
