Sparkle's lyrics

Everytime I listen to Sparkle, I really can't get this out of my mind...
read the lyrics below

<<Hora soko de kusubutte iru
Kawaii boys tachi to

Konya dake wa girls tachi mo
Tsuyogari wa oyasumi>>

usually the suffix -tachi is used to form the plural of some type of words (for example: koibito --> koibitotachi in Appears) but in this case the english words used are already in plural form (boys and girls)..
So why putting the suffix there?? it is anonsense to me

Maybe she's used it just because i sounded better than boytachi and girltachi? or she just needed more syllables to complete the verse?

To me, I think she's referring to when you're in a nightclub and there's loads of people. So I think to add "tachi" to boys and girls is to make it kind of more than plural, if that makes sense.

Also, it could just be Engrish.

maybe she doen't know that a "s" in the end of the word means plural...
Or she knows, but most japanese don't ^^

I wondered that since the beginning. It's kinda like saying "otokotachis" and "onnatachis". lol And I'm quite sure she knows that "boys" and "girls" are plural since she has a song titled, well, "Boys & Girls".
Maybe she wanted it to mean something like "the boys and the other people with them, who could be both boys and girls". Just as you say insert name-tachi, meaning that person and his friends, family or other people that belong into insert name's group

Well...

Don't you notice that she always uses Engrish in her songs?

She capitalized "BOYS" and "GIRLS" means she just thought that BOYS and GIRLS were proper nouns in English, she knows nothing different between boy/girl and boys/girls I guess.

And also,only using BOYたち/GIRLたち sounds a bit weird,RIGHT?

^ I dont think so, english capitelization probably means nothin in japanese songs, reBIRTH is capitalized wrongly as well but the word is right xD I think she did it because it would sound horrible the other way, im sure she knows the difference, MW making of sounded like she speaks pretty good english, but aga-chan could be right

Actually you'd be surprised how many Japanese jumped on this verse immediately for how badly the grammar is written. I tend to think that Ayu knows better too judging by the CNN interview, unless that interview was actually very rehearsed. And as mentioned, she does have a song called Boys and Girls already.

There are already lots of "s" sounds in the four lines, it is probably a matter of flow over anything else.

Hora soko de kusubutte iru
Kawaii boys tachi to

Konya dake wa girls tachi mo
Tsuyogari wa oyasumi

I think it would sound awkward if it was any other way:

Hora soko de kusubutte iru
Kawaii BO-I tachi to

Konya dake wa GA-A-RU tachi mo
Tsuyogari wa oyasumi

*shrugs*

Really? There are so many "better" engrish to jump on...
And if I'm not wrong, in the begining of her career, she had someone to help her with the english...

Even so... still think the "boys-tachi" is for the japanese who doesn't know much english understanding what she meant

But engrish is just a non native speaker messing up the use of a foreign word. In this case, she had both bad English and bad Japanese grammar all at the same time. There were very few Japanese online from what I saw that didn't harp on that sentence.

TBH I didn't even notice it. I guess it is pretty redundant, but something about "boytachi" and "girltachi" just sounds silly...

ah ah ah ah...no words! that's pretty funny

anyway I do think it sounds mean and really silly boytachi, even if I don't like this ungrammatical sentences..I would like singers give more worth to their own language
