me too. i used to love KAT-TUN but i don't really care about them anymore, i haven't downloaded any of their music since queen of pirates either.

i used to listen to J-pop 24/7. but now, i listen to whatever, really. J-pop, American, Spanish, etc. i still think J-pop is my core interest (as i'm taking Japanese classes & all), but i do agree that post 2006, J-pop's taken a dive (i've been listening since 2003). of course, there are still groups & artists i fully support, but none of these "new" artists are like the previous generations.

but, i also think there are great acts out there. you just need to do some searching. however, it's much easier to find underground American artists than J-pop for me.

No because most of the Japanese music/Japanese artists I've listened to are indie or of various genres other than J-Pop.

I've been expanding my taste in J-Pop though, finally getting around to listening to artists whose names I see mentioned here on AHS.

I don't think I could lose interest in J-pop, because mainstream music here is just so much worse

I don't listen to as much J-Pop now as I did 3 years ago, my tastes are broadening slightly to get back into English music again, but I don't think I'll ever be able to give it all up and go back to what's "hot" on the radio.

I'm every day discovering new artists and there are lots who I think I'll always love, being Ayu, ZARD, Namie, L'arc and more. I think that J-pop music offers something unique, even its most boring offers are better than what I hear on the radio.

J-pop still has a long life to go with me yet and I've barely started to become interested in Cantopop and K-Pop.

i did for about a year? i started really hating ayu after she released MY STORY. so i took a break from her/j-pop, i wasn't really a huge fan of any other j-pop artists. then i came back and became a huge koda kumi freak, caught back up on ayu and loved her new releases so much that i got back into my ayu obsession. then i discovered a lot of other j-pop artists i love now! so yeah i have lost interest before but now i'm very interested in it and even if i'm disappointed by a release from one of my favorite artists there's usually another one just around the corner to look forward to. but ayu will mainly keep my interest in it, she's really good at not disappointing me

no. I really dislike mainstream English music, so J-pop is an excellent alternative. I'm constantly impressed by what the artists I like are releasing, so I'm kept interested. However some of my favourite artists haven't been releasing very much lately.

that's precisely 1 of the many reasons why I crossed over to jpop 3 years ago

Eng music was getting so boring/stagnant I needed a change & it helped that my younger sister has been listening to it for the past 7/8 years so jpop was naturally the next alternative for me to listen to

I'm not a huge j-pop fan to begin with. I listen to a variety of genres and I cherry pick my favorites from everything; oldies, classical, French pop, Latin, trance, new age, accapella, Swedish dance, you name it. Apparently, I cherry picked Ayu as one of them. I think I only like about 8 songs from Ayu. Even though that's a very small percentage of her songs, that's still a lot more than other Japanese artists in which I only like about 1 or 2 songs. So for j-pop as a whole, I had only little interest for it to begin with.

I love her...but...I realised that I only love I think exactly 9 songs out of her entire discography.

I just can't get into her 90's pop. I'm sorry namie.

I agree about Ayu's albums mostly, though I'd say that My Story and miss Understood were still pretty good with a lot of great moments on each. Secret was still a great album, but I could see the quality starting to slip. Guilty I thought was her worst, but than Next Level came out and was even worse than that.

I've never really felt sick of the j-pop scene. If I can't get into current J-Pop, there is tons of great material form the 70s through the 90s to keep me occupied until the next good current release comes along.

Well... I first started liking Jpop in 2003- but I only liked 1 or atists. I never cared for it at that time and I just started loving Jpop again in mid- 2007. So im still good.

I've only lost interest with Namie, I still listen to her from time to time. But I can't get into her pre-STYLE stuff all too much.

and I love Ai Otsuka's change so far, her ballads are gorgeous and her lyrics are more mature. I wouldn't mind another CHU-LIP song nonetheless.

I'm asking this, because this is the way I feel toward J-Pop music right now. I believe Austin did a post like this a while ago? I think that I've been gradually losing interest for a year or 2, maybe 3? Probably because my top idols haven't really released anything that interesting. - Koda is getting mediocre all over again. More TABOO, less ballads please!
- Ami Suzuki... I liked the direction she took with CONNETTA. Dolce wasn't that bad either! But Supreme Show was a major disappointment. And then she goes and release something like Reincarnation... Oh God...
- Ai Otsuka, to be honest, I don't remember the last time I listened to her music...
- Hello! Project... Morning Musume, Aya Matsuura, Abe Natsumi, GAM, Miki Fujimoto, Ongaku Gatas, Berryz, C-ute, all shuffles and sub-groups... I don't care for them anymore. I passed that H!P phase. XD
- ZONE, HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR, REMIOROMEN, Kou Shibasaki, Tommy heavenly6, the brilliant green, RYTHEM... They are all fading away too.

To be honest, hot "new" artists like GReeeeN, Stereopony, SCANDAL, Ikimonogakari, Kobukuro, Perfume don't interest me as much as I thought I would be.


Reasons I'm still following the J-Pop scene:
- BoA. Korean, Japanese, English. She still has it.
- ayaka is the only exciting "new" artist. She's going on hiatus though.
- hitomi & aiko. Their music will always be timeless.
- Namie Amuro's music is getting better and better over the years IMO.
- Shoko Nakagawa. Her music is so versatile.
- Maki Goto. Everything she has done so far with avex has been awesome.
- ERIKA, there might be hope she comes back? XD

So yes, there might be hope! LOL. There's still 8 artists out of 20-30 something J-Pop artists I used to listen to that I still like!

OMG I Agree so much with ur post! Altho I still like Ai, her music isn't as good as before : ( i'm hoping the new single will turn things around haha.

Ayu has gone down after secret like WAY down D: ~! her newest album is just bad IMO. I had some interest in it because of curtain call and next level but then I heard the rest and it was just ugh bad. GUILTY is in the same boat too, but I dislike this album even more. marionette might as well be used for the next nightmare before christmas movie >_> ~!

koda kumi... altho I Don't like her music at all pretty much, she was better as a sexy singer. what happened to juicy: to be continued lmao

Although i do like kobukuro ~! lol! they are really good IMO XD and I like Perfume's new single ahaha but yeah not many good new artists lately except ayaka who's going bye bye for now D: ~!

AND OMG AIKO <333 YES I SO AGREE LOL her music is always steady : ) ~! So amazing haha! I was surprised her himitsu album didn't sell 300k D: ~! And I agree on namie too : )!

Honestly to sum it up I only listen to namie, hikki, ai, ayaka, and aiko mainly now lol. Sometimes kobukuro.

American pop is getting better tho haha no more rap domination lol! I don't mind rap but l didn't like how it was dominating the charts at one point >< I need my pop music hahhaha! And C-pop is always nice : ) ~!

yeah it's terrible . I missed the material that she put out during her LOVE COOK era

Cherish & Planetarium were no doubt some of otsuka's best tunes that she has put out in her career

You know... I never actually really did answer the question lol I just rambled on about how my favourite artists (or used to be favourite) disappointed me. Anyways... no I haven't lost interest in J-Pop. If I did I wouldn't be constantly logging on to here and JPM lol. My obsession with it just isn't what it was like before. I'll actually just listen to anything that sounds good to me now, regardless if it's Japanese, English, Korean, French, etc.
