i blame secret-guilty... not enough change between albums and people were turned off by the blahness of guilty... lol

I think it was A BEST 2. There was high expectations for that album and 1 million copies were shipped each...but it only sold around 700k leaving 300k unsold (equivalent of a platinum certification) That is baaaaaaad

first, nothing could really save that cover (lol) and the music just wasn't there. We got some really good stuff off both of them, but just looking at the albums going from 1 to another I dont think there was enough change to please fans and they are both so different from My story and missunderstood which were completely different from I am, rainbow, memorial address.

You guys are really blaming Guilty? That's kind of a laugh... the album sold very well compared to Secret. If anything, between (m)u and Secret is when this started.

^^ i was blaming guilty for the drops in 2008 since that was the album that was released then. But if you want to blame an album for drop in sales, it REALLY started with I am and Rainbow... lol
I am had slightly less sales then Duty, but rainbow had almost a million sales less then I am... thats where her decline really started, lol.

Weeell yeah xD Though I don't blame that as the point where it really started since the next albums all sold around the 1 million mark. Singles wise... it was during &, right?

I think & was her last single to sell 500K.
Im not saying her sales were bad during I am - miss, they were just steadily declining.
But a drop from missunderstood - secret - guilty is pretty big. the bigger drop was between missunderstood and secret, but another pretty big drop was from guilty to next level. I was saying that guilty was just not a big enough change from secret to keep some people interested.
It was a lot like the I am to rainbow albums... there wasn't a big enough change and she lost almost a million album sales.

Ayu's sales were pretty nice up until 2011 honestly with Love Songs (counts for 2011) and FIVE. I think if she had just continued to do proper eras with singles and some TV lives as usual the sales would've been better now. Also that whole Timmy/Maro thing recently probably hurt her a bit as well.

A Best 2 sold very well. A Best 2 sold a combined 1.5 million units.

In Japan, amongst Ayu fans there's something called Bold & Delicious shock　（ボルデリショック = boruderishock). Bold & Delicious was the turning point when many fans thought she lost her marbles, and many people started hating her. If you google the japanese, you can find many people talking about it LOL

So in fact, this hasn't been going on for just 1 or 2 years, but ever since 2005. With the advent of itunes and other ways of getting music, people just dont want to buy her things.

I definitely agree with you. The singles before B&D/P all sold on par to the level of MY STORY's singles, so I think Ayu's marketing team should've not released that single, or chose better songs for it (I think a Ladies night/Pride would've been amazing).

I think rainy day/Ladies night would've made a better single over-all even though I love Pride so much.

I was actually self-debating on whether Pride or rainy day should've been on the single lol! A Pride/rainy day would've been ballad overload after HEAVEN, so I just stuck with Pride in the end because it was already on it .

A few more fans preordered the album this time it seems, but the general audience ain't buying her albums as much anymore. Expected, but sad. I can't see ayu going kpop generic, she'll stick to her music styles and her words for ever, which makes me happy but it isn't gonna improve her sales anytime soon.

the song is just ridiculous... lol.
It was nothing like she had done before or since (thank goodness).
When it first came out I couldnt listen to it at all... Not like listen to it when its on my itunes, but its not in my top 100 or anything.
