[Throwback] Ayu throws massive shade at Britney Spears
I just came across this one old interview Ayu did with Time back in 2002, and this part intrigues me quite a bit:
"It was written in some newspaper that I'm a Japanese Britney Spears. I like her, and she's fun to watch, but I don't get the sense that she's her own creation." Spill that truth tea girl. ![]() |

I love Britney but i don't get shade from this, just truth?
Britney is obviously a manufactured pop star driven by her management, Ayu just tells it like it is.

What kind of sophisticated drag. But she's right though.

This was said during 2002, when Britney was pretty much a industry puppet... From an artistic point of view she had better moments during 2003 and 2007, considering both In The Zone and Blackout were her albums with the most creative control and are frequently considered her best... But as far as 2002 Britney goes, the statement is very real.
Now, what's the point on opening this thread? If you really felt the need to talk about that, this subject would better fit the "Everything goes" thread. |

Love ayu but out of Asia she's nobody. So being compared to an international star should've been taken as a compliment. Not as an insult or an opportunity to talk down, cause now in 2015 who is she being compared to?? (crickets)

I don't really feel like Ayu has room to talk since she isn't her own creation either, she's just as manufactured as britney.

@melissalove nobody would compare you to Britney in 2002 as a compliment... Actually, nobody compares you to Britney as a compliment even today. Girl is one of the biggest popstars in history and gets even less credit for her own career and longevity than Ayu does. Now, Ayu still is compared to Madonna, what is suitable because both aren't selling much these days but are the biggest popstars in history on their own league. Numbers don't lie
![]() @hsienko Ayu is notorious for having a huge amount of creative control over her own career since her 2nd album... I feel like you are just bitter lately. |

I don't get the comparision to Britney Spears at all. I have seen people doing that but imo Ayu is so out of Britney's league that this comparision just makes no sense to me. I accept Madge comparision because they do have that similar vibe going on (especially when it comes to concerts) but Britney Spears? What the hell?

Again people are making fun of artists who don't have control over their career,
pleaaaaaaaaaase. Exactly, didn't she say that she was a product of avex? |

Not in the sense that she didn't have any control over her lyrics, music, production, etc... aka the musical side of things -- something Ms. Spears didn't and still doesn't seem to have any interest in except for only a few song she CO-wrote.

Producers who worked with Britney frequently say she actually put a great amount of imput over the final result on the recording sessions and more than one actually told she gets less official credits over her creative imputs than she should. She also has been credited as the one who came up with the idea for videos like Baby one more time, Toxic and Womanizer. Her first writting credit was during the Oops I did it again album, Dear Diary, a pretty shitty song. Britney was taking control over her music during 2001, during the production of her Britney album, where she has writing credits on half of the tracks. For this album she also had her boyfriend as a producer and is credited as the one responsable for the concept. During In The Zone she had writing credits on 9 tracks and was credited as a producer. If you take the tracks released between In The Zone and Blackout she has writing credits on every song but Do Somethin', and even if she doesn't have writing credits on the later, she co-directed the music video. She has only 2 writing credits during Blackout, but she's credited as the album's only executive producer, what means she was the one hiring the producers and musicians... In other words, she basically decided the album direction, aesthetic and sound. And just to remember, this is her most critic acclaimed album to date. She was producing one album by herself, writting all the songs on it, The Original Doll, but it was canceled by the label, you can find several demos from the album around the internet. After that she had her breakdown and conservationship, and we can't really know how much freedom she has to actually have creative freedom over the final result of her releases. She has 2 writing credits on Circus, but is again credited as the one responsable for the album concept. Femme Fatale has 1 song with writing credits, but on the overall album credits she is credited as the one responsable for the concept, as a writer and as a composer. Britney Jean has that very suspicious writing credits on every song (even so, some of the songs really do sound like the stuff she composed before), but she is also credited as the A&R and the one who decided the concept. Other than that, BoA and Selena Gomez had recorded songs co-written by Britney (Look who's talking and Whiplash) There's a rumour she only re-signed with her label after Britney Jean if she could have more creative control over her releases... We can't know for sure if that's true or not, but the fact that she is recording new songs (she has been seen with different producers frequently on the studio) without an announced executive producer can mean she will take the role once again. How much of that is true and how much isn't? We can't know for sure... But there's also rumours saying Ayu is just this cute idol who pretends to write songs crafted by professional songwritters... How can we know again? That rumour started on her fan forum Exhale, the place on internet with the most stupid people I ever saw... This one started because of members don't think she sounds like herself on BJ (as if we could actually know considering how processed her voice is) and started stating it as a fact. |
