I think it's basically when she sings a final song and the whole audience thinks it's the last song but then, she comes back and sing a few more songs. Or something like that.
Encore means more or again in french.

After 17 songs, Ayu needs a break for a bit. Usually in big concerts the artist will take a break for two or three minutes or so, and come back and do a great big ending.

Encore's are usually songs that are performed 'without intention'. They're extra peices done to make fans happy. That's why Ayu isn't in costume for encores. THey're songs the artist can easily perform with little or no routine involved(or with a routine so well known that it doesn't have to be practiced).

^ A lot of encores seem intentional though...at least Ayu isn't in costume in her encores, I've seen other artists who are..."unintentional"...riiight...

An encore is when there's usually a high demand for an artist to "just sing one more!". To appease their audience, an artist will come back out and sing usually one-two more songs. This is the encore. It's usually impromptu, and sometimes the songs are just random. (Ones the artist can sing off the top of their head...usually old favorites or just some random song by another artist) Sometimes they'reroutinely entered into concerts. I have to admit I've never seen another artist sing so many songs for an encore, (then again I don't watch many concerts) but whatever.
So essentially they're just extra songs the artist just throws in. They're usually old favorites...IE Boys & Girls and Trauma. Ayu makes them casual, giving off a true encore feel. "This is really the end guys, but let's have fun!" She usually likes to interact with the audience, and teach them to dance and talk and stuff. Hope this helps you some. ^^; |

I really doubt they make encores "un-intentionally" because a lot of the time, it looks like they really need practice for the dance moves and all that.

her encores are so non-spontaneous....that's one annoying thing
it seems that she encores just for the sake of it, instead of satisfying popular demand |

I agree, Ayumi encores seem very planned. She may not be in costume but the fact is, her dancers have a routine during the encore. So this means that they practiced ahead of time (where to stand, etc)

For most artists the encore isn't planned. Alot of times it is though, like Ayu. Probably with Concert Tour 2000's first few shows they weren't planned, but I'd guess that with later tours they just learned that the audience ALWAYS wants more so she & her crew probably practice them. Some artists (like tori amos) will often do TWO encores, so really every artist's treatment of the encore is different.
