we're talking about if koda will replace ayu cos of her rising popularity which is evident in "you"'s sales. we're not talking if koda already has taken ayu's spot as queen of jpop or not. we're looking at the long term. n as mentioned 164k for her already shows her rising popularity when most of her other singles (mainly pre 2005) couldnt even reach 100k

Yes that's true but I'm sure that her next album will be based on these singles which will thus will get avex more money in the long run but yes the main idea was probably based on her staying in the limelight.

However it kinda shows how avex is afraid that as soon as she gets out of the limelight she might not remain so popular. Hm..

Well I really do think Avex should really concentrate on Ayu, but I think they are afraid to lose money. I thought that "fairyland" was reported to be a HUGE comeback SMASH from Ayu and they went all out on the PV but it wasn't all that great. The STEP you single was AMAZING - 2 awesome A-sides, 2 great PVs, plus a bonus PV of the hottest song from MY STORY! I think STEP you/is this LOVE? was the single to promote and Avex missed their chance. I mean look at the sale for STEP you; very good. Imagine what they would have been like with more promotion!

Ok, now let's discuss (miss)understood. I think this CD was very rushed. I mean, the all of the photoshoots for the CD booklet was done in New York around 1-2 months before the album release! Also, many songs were recorded in New York as well. Another point is that there aren't many NEW songs on (miss)understood; a lot of single songs as you can see...

Also, all this talk of Ayu "going on a break and then returning"... Take a look at what they did to Namie. She left and Ayu was discovered and came in and took over the whole dang country! Namie came back and everyone was too interested in Ayu to even take notice. It would be devastating if the same were to happen to our adorable Ayu!

I hope Ayu doesn't release as many singles this year - either that, or when Xmas time rolls around and she is promoting another album, she should have alot of new tracks on it and like 5 PVs to promote the whole thing! As much as I love to hear news on a new Ayu single, I don't think it is worth it when the new album rolls around. There isn't much new stuff there...

Anyways, about Koda Kumi... I think she is sexy and has good music but not as good as Ayu! I mean, her BEST album is selling as much as a regular Ayu album does! Ayu's BEST album sold 4,000,000+ copies! That is amazing. Yeah, I know that it's a different time and all but I mean, still, you have to admit that is some crazy sales! And I also think that AVEX is making a bad move by milking Koda for everything so quickly. They just discovered how much potential she has and went crazy. First, realeasing 12 new songs with 12 new PVs for 12 consecutive weeks? WOW! And then we come to find out that there is another BEST album on the way, pretty much compromised of all the 12 singles and PVs? That is just plain dumb. A bad move... Everyone will get sick of Koda really fast!

And in conclusion... Ayu is just amazing! She has little to no promotion in other countries outside of Asia and she has fans all over THE WORLD! You might say "well so does Britney Spears", but that is different. She is promoted on every single planet, let alone country. So let's all just be happy that Ayu is still here and selling very well!

i agree, the break thing wouldnt really work, just look at namie or to a lesser extent, hikki.

about the retirement thing, ayu is 27. 30 is already considered very old in the jpop music industry. so technically, she only has about 2-3 yrs b4 shes considered very old.

i guess the koda kumi 2nd best album is not too bad of a move because a lot of her new 12 singles are limited to 50K .. not that she is a high seller but the 2nd best album will probably milk the remaining audience with that money but couldn't get the limited single ...

as for Ayu, i agree with anime_fanatic totally because I think that way too. Ayu's music still impresses me a lot up till now. I just hope Avex wakes up from the fear of depending totally on Ayu. They have a strong base in the music industry now and I think it's time to put back some chips into Ayu because she clearly deserves this.

I feel that Ayu's releasing too many singles in a short period of time too, making it difficult to have more new songs on her albums. It'd probably be a wise thing to release less, but Ayu being Ayu, would she hear of it? She's probably too driven to allow herself to slacken down and write songs slowly.

And about Koda Kumi...I think Avex is seriously burning her out as well. 12 singles in 12 weeks is already a superhuman effort, but it doesn't look like they're going to allow her to stop anytime soon, what with the 2nd "Best" album coming out like you said. And she hasn't even had an original album in this period of time!

Somehow Avex seems to be really poor in terms of decision-making for promoting their stars. Happened with Ayu, happening to Koda Kumi now.

If koda got rid of those moles and changed her nose, she may look alright.
I'm not a hater of Koda it is just:
-her name annoys
-her music is bland
-her voice isn't appealing
-her image really annoys.
The only thing I really have against Ayu is:
-her image

So, ayu wins.
