Well it's not surprising. This album has been around for five or four weeks and also new albums get released every week so it's obvious that it will eventually go down the charts. Even Ai's LOVE COOK has gone off the charts. Probably it will pick up a little during the week.

It's not because Ayu didn't sold a million copies yet that it means it's the end of her career. hitomi haven't sold a million copies since a very long time. I don't see her dropping her career just because of that. There is so much more than sales...

It's totally different. hitomi was never THE biggest, she was never ONE of the biggests, she sold well but nothing breath taking, she never reached a million copies. Ayu sold a million copies with every album, incluinding her mini-album and A Ballads, so you can't really compare both of them.

But yes, I agree, it's pretty stupid this 'she will need to end her life now because she won't reach million copies'. Yah... I think now Ayu is not the biggest-seller anymore, she needs to go rest and then come back about a year from now, she won't sell HALF of what she sells today, but she'll still be a big star, like Seiko Matsuda or Yumi Matsutoya, they don't sell as much anymore but they're still HUGE. I prefer that than Ayu releasing nonstop till she's not selling anything and everybody is sick of her. But yes, (miss)understood sold over 700k, for now, she's OK.

Its started. My school mates have already gone "I heard Ayumi isn't popular anymore." and stuff. And I deny and convince them otherwise.

You shouldn't feel the need to "convince" them anything. So what Ayu's not the top and best selling artist anymore? She's still very much popular.

But its hell lot annoying when they say "Ayumi is no longer the best. She's failing and she's going to dissapear in a few years. Koda Kumi is better." And you feel like hammering Bold & Delicious so badly in their head.

Ayumi Hamasaki breaks up with Tomoya. Publicity stunt to revive sales.
Ayumi Hamasaki eats cake. Publicity stunt to revive sales.
Ayumi Hamasaki records songs. Another publicity stunt to revive popularity.

At that rate, everything she does will be deemed as publicity stunts to revive her career.

Koda Kumi is NOT ugly, and certainly not cheap.

Yeah well people love gossip so they'll try any tiny little thing to talk about current issues. And Ayu has been pretty much current for ages.

Well not everybody is sick of her. Many of her fans here certainly aren't.

Oh sorry, I didn't meant that. What I was saying was she's better take a break, if she continues being in every billboard and TV show people will be sick of her, actually, they already are, but I don't want her to reach a point where people are so sick of her she'll stop selling [believe me, it happens in Japan]. So I just think it's better if she decide to stop for some time and then come back, she won't sell half as much as she does today, but at least she'll be really popular doing big tours and such, people won't get sick of seeing her face everyday, everywhere.

I think that the people who think she should retire should go read the lyrics of NEVER EVER, and think about the "A BEST affair"... obviously she'll never give up, hence NEVER EVER. I think even if her CDs will only cell ONE copy, she'll still make music. She could have gave up and stopped long ago, but she didn't. and obviously she has quite a large fanbase in Japan if her 7th album in her 7TH year sold over 700,000 already, let alone the downloads. Many artists in her shoes would have faded away long ago, but I think it's taken a special and strong person to keep going so long.. =] so >.> I wouldnt expect to see her go away any time soon.

why can't people understand that if an artist doesn't sell well they could get dropped from their record labels which could mean no more music...

now, I'm not saying she's selling bad but if she ever releases an album that only sells 100,000 Avex will definitely think about letting her go...

*cough* didn't Ami Suzuki's last album sell less than that? did avex let her go? No! and plus, Ayu has more seniority with avex, so I doubt they would just drop her.

I'm definitely not sick of Ayu. I'll continue to support her.

And btw, how do you know the Japanese are sick of Ayu? Do you live in Japan?

It might be better for her to take a break, but at this point it doesn't seem as if Ayu will. She's doing her own thing now.

I think for people who consider themselves fans, you guys are pretty mean and don't believe in Ayu at all.

I wonder why it dropped to 10th, what's the competition for the album?

No, I don't live in Japan, but I go to Japan often and know people there. In 2001/2002, it was almost impossible to find someone between 14 and 30 years who didn't liked Ayu or, at least, some of her songs. Now, Ayu is not a trendsetter anymore and she's not even the most popular among teenage girls, actually, it's much easier to find someone who thinks Ayu is annoying than someone who likes her.

And I wasn't talking about people in this board being sick of Ayu, obviously most people here aren't sick of her

I understand where you come from. In fact I understand your point completely. I was just saying that Japanese people are not exactly sick of Ayu (and I know this because a lot of my family is Japanese and lives in Japan) - I think there's just others who they're more interested in.

Anyway, I don't want to start an argument, so let's just see how (miss)understood fairs in the coming weeks. Anybody know why it dropped to #10 for that day?
