I think it's nice. It kind of sounds like 'Tooku Hanarete mo', but the chorus is cute and the high notes are nice sounding.

The song's nice, but still don't beat Yukiboshi and others. It will sure grow into me soon, as always with the music of hers, lol.

Ack... I don't like it. At all...

I actually like that ballad style of Samii's. Ichiban Yasashii Kaze, the FLUTTER of WINGS, Kono Mune ni Zutto are all GREAT songs IMO, and I really really do love garden.

But I have to agree that... I dunno, garden was enough of it, she should start doing something new now, or her discography will all sound the same...

And also... if I compare Arigatou to the other songs on the album that were in the same style, they are just so superior. There's nothing particularly interesting about the arrangement and the melody annoys me a bit (I dunno, I just don't think Samii's voice works well with those high notes in the chorus...); also, I have nothing against writing a song dedicated to her mom, but couldn't she come up with something more interesting, original, more personal than "Thanks, mama, thanks, mama"?

Yukiboshi is a good song, though it's not relly my style. I dunno, I just don't enjoy it as much as her other songs. And maybe I'm just weird, but I always thought Soshite was just like all her ballad songs from garden (Ichiban Yasashii Kaze, etc)... sound like the same style to me. But like I said, maybe I'm just weird lol. What I really want to see her sing again is the traditional influenced style from Tabibito and Hyaku Renka. It REALLY works with her voice, the songs are just so beautiful, and the traditional instrumentals really spice them up. Hyaku Renka is my favorite song from her~<3

Anyway, maybe Arigatou will grow on me, but right now I don't think I'll even download the single when it's out (unless the B-side ends up being totally awesome or something)... I really hope her next release will be better...

The song is pretty, but nothing special.

Okay, I tried translating it ^^
But well, the kanji lyrics aren't out yet, so I was kinda guessing what she was saying. Plus I always abuse the dctionaries when translating songs ('cause my japanese sucks XD) and without lyrics it's hard XD
But anyway, here's what I got:
Spoiler:
Thank you, mama
thank you, mama
having met you is what happiness is

A worried crying face
a voice that's a bit low
(blablabla... dunno what she says here XD)
all the different "me"s

more precious than any miracle
a treasure called "you"

Thank you, mama
crybaby mama
you're inside of me
Thank you, mama
you stayed by my side
I was born so that I could meet you

a quarrel at midnight
I left home
and kept on waiting for you to come

becoming honest using words
if you hold me, I'll understand it right away

Thank you, mama
mama who pretends to be strong
I'm inside of you
Thank you, mama
you taught me the meaning of happiness so many times

I wonder if someday I'll protect someone like this
Thank you, mama
thank you, mama
for being here

Thank you, mama
thank you, mama
I'll always be happy*

*This is probably a play with words... "mama" means "way" or "manner" in japanese, so when she says "shiawase no mama" I think it's like, "in the state of happiness" kinda thing, playing with the word "mama" meaning "mum". Otherwise it would mean "I'm always a happy mama" which wouldn't make much sense.

Wow thanx so much! Even if it's not completely accurate it still makes sense to me. The lyrics are even better than I thought they would be. They're so touching

Exactly. I think the lyrics are very nice and they make me appreciate the song very much. I'm also glad SHE wrote them. Aw, I love Samii
At first listen I thought the song was very beautiful, I especially love her chorus and high notes. I think it's a great song. I love her as a ballad person, but upbeat traditional is LOVE too xD

I think I'll make a set of my dear Samii later <3

&Thanks apple-pi for the English translation!

Kanji from apple-pi's translation for people who need it. Line 6 isn't there though, maybe someone can help figure it out for us, then I'll edit and place it in here.

hmm...........its another bland ballad type thinger.
its pleasant enough though.
im going to keep my preorder on my single though, because her remixes are always really good.

im hoping that her following singles will be a bit more upbeat and unique. Tabibito and Yukiboshi were fantastic, id love to see more of that! And less filler type songs on her next album!

^ Surprisingly I can tolerate her ballads. I'm a ballad person but when artists have nothing but ballads, I tend not to take interest in them anymore. With Samii it's different. I love her ballads, and her vocals are too cute to not listen to She's just different. I don't really mind if she stays a ballad artist though. But I would love to hear more songs like Tabibito and Yukiboshi, those songs were pure love from her
And yes, her remixes are really good, IMO.

^i really love ballads too, but i find hers to be a bit bland. although i still find them very pleasant.

i just wish her material kept the same ****ing awesome quality and wow factor as tabibito and hyaku renka.
shes just kinda cooled off, and shes barely started!

^ Maybe she will surprise us in the next album? Hopefully
She's great with traditional sounding material.
I like listening to her music at night when it's peace and quiet. Like you said, her songs are pleasant ^^

I think I have to agree with this. Her ballads are nice but they're kind of plain and sometimes I have a hard time listening to them constantly like I do with some artists. For awhile I was inlove with her 'Garden' album, but after awhile it was just like 'eh I'm sick of this album'. But don't get me wrong, I DO like 'Arigatou'..it's cute and the lyrics are very nice .

I thought garden was bland at first, but then I fell in love with it later, and I still love it~
But I still don't like Arigatou. IMO it's a lot worse than the album tracks from garden, so I'll be happy if her next single's better, even if not as good as Tabibito or Hyaku Renka.

What I don't understand though is, why did they change her music style? From traditionally-influenced music to these type of ballads? I mean, she didn't sell THAT much back then, but she's not selling more now. You'd think they would've tried something new by now. I hope avex didn't give up on her or anything.

^ But her sales aren't that bad. Isn't she actaully doing pretty good for a debuter?

Well, she's doing decent, I guess. (better than alan, Nana, ASUKA, etc)
I wasn't saying that I think her sales are bad, I was just wondering what the change of style was about... I think the only (or "more plausible"? XD) explanation for the change in her music style after Hyaku Renka was that avex was trying to make her more "mainstream" or whatever to increase sales. Since her sales did not increase, I was wondering why they didn't change her style to something else yet.

Unless she asked for another style, 'cause she likes ballads? XD I dunno.

^ True, better than the other debuters. That's always a good sign. But maybe she will go back to that style sometime soon. I mean, wouldn't she? Her Tabibito song was a best hits! They SHOULD have her go back and make her do stuff like that again.

I was expecting them to make garden the "ballad chapter" of her discography, and end there. I really thought the new single was going to be something completely different, though I had already stopped thinking that way when the titles came out XD
I think that, to have a style change right after an album release would've been perfect timing. Since they didn't do that, I seriously don't know when they're going to put her on a "new direction". But since Samii's starting to write her lyrics, maybe she can slowly take more control of her music, and start releasing what she wants to. That would be a way to hear something new. Or is that pratically impossible? XD Can only the big divas have control of their music in avex?
