Love ~Destiny~ was her first #1. That seems pretty breakthrough to me.

Boys&Girls was the start of the "ayuboom", possibly due to the 10track maxi single format

Yeah, it was LOVE ~Destiny~... I remember, cause that was around the time I started to really get into JPOP.

LOVE~Destiny~, was her first hit that sold well, after that, 'TO BE' didn't sell that well.
But from 'Boys & Girls' onwards, it was the era of 10track maxis, and she's been topping the charts since then. |

in my opinion, it was definately Love~Destiny~... it was her first #1 hit, stayed on the oricon chart for 25 weeks, and was her first single to sell over 500,000 copies. before that, her singles always sold in the 100,000 range. |

I read it in the newspaper in indonesia too that Love ~destiny~ was her breakthru single. Boys&Girls is also a breakthrough one. it sold more than 1 mill copies (well, her first million marked single).

I read in a magazine article on her that she had 28 hit singles (At the time she had only released 28), so I always thought her first single was her "breakthrough" or at least a hit, but I don' know. Before I read that I'd heard LOVE ~Destiny~ was her breakthrough, but yeah, now I'm not sure.

A Song for XX, the album, stayed at the #1 spot for 5 weeks while being mainly promoted by the song of the same name. How can that not be a breakthrough song?

I think several are breakthrough songs
I think M is one of the biggest, then i think RAINBOW is another. and after she did ourselves, she began releasing increasingly dark PVs but i dont know if i count that I think STEP you was a major hit and it totally hit me by surprise and ever since ayus been releasing hot new tunes

LOVE ~Destiny~as the #1 breakthrough and Boys & Girls/A as the singles that made her a big idol sounds pretty good to me.

I say a song for xx. The lyrics had impact on some people.

I would also say "Boys & Girls"
While "A Song for xx" and "LOVE ~Destiny~" were very popular hits, I think B&G was definitely the one that gave her the "idol" title and helped her to solidify future popularity. |

I think it's M, the first CREA song and its the song preferred of her fans (according to a classification of Music Station in 2001)
she's passed from the statute of idoole to a true star |

Well Trust was ayu's first song to enter the Top 10 (#9) and WHATEVER was the first to enter the Top 5 (#5) but LOVE ~Destiny~ was her first #1
If you're talking about signature songs ayu has a few: A Song for XX Boys & Girls SEASONS M evolution Dearest and the list could go on forever

I don't think a "breakthrough" can simply be judged by charts alone. There are many artists who reach high positions and quickly fall into obscurity. I really think until "B&G," ayu was just another popular artist.
