Sadly female artists can't sell more than boybands if they're not uber popular and it's even harder with the singles.

Why would boybands' singles sell higher? Are they more popular or something? Personally I don't really like them but, I hope I could know of a reason.

Japan is full of fan girls, who feed on "beauty". I don't think there is any other explanation for huge sales of ultra generic pop music.

Are you serious? Oh well, no matter what the adversities are, at least Ayu managed to sell a decent number for Mirrorcle World.

They are not really cheaper, but they come with more things.
Like more often that not, many songs on the single (at least 3 or more), And sometimes photobook and dvd. I think it's easier to get females to buy singles much more than guys... And those who are fans of johnny's... omg... sooo powerful and devote. |

^ oh, and also there's only one ayu, one utada, one kumi, whereas there'll be more than one eye candy for every boyband.
