Do you think.....
Do you think if enought people e-mail avex, they'll start releasing region-free dvds, like EMI does witrh Utada??I think it was very smart of them to do that, as it made things easier for a lot of ppeople. Also, because DVDs may not be compatible with many peoples players, we'll be forced to watch them on our PC..or worse, buy region-all bootlegs (coughcough).

I don't think so, but we can try. I think they would just ignore us. However, if they kept being flooding with emails they might do it.

no it won't happen. avex doesn't care if you're not in their region, all they care about is the Japanese market, which we're not in. Sales to people overseas are insignificant compared to the people in Japan. It would also screw people over since most people that don't live in Japan can't afford paying $50 for a DVD.

Then we just email Avex Taiwan?
Why would making a disc region free raise the price? |

the price would stay the same, meaning, you'd be dishing out $50 for every hamasaki dvd you buy.

well...the point they make DVD reginos is bcuz of profit...or something like that..i forgot..ill go look it up later. But wut im saying is, if they're afraid of losing profit by making all-region, then i wouldnt mind them raising prices a bit..

"Why is this, you ask? According to what the public is being told is that this is a tool to protect copyright and film distribution rights (in other words, movie studio profits). You see, movies are released in theaters in different parts of the world at different times throughout the year. That Summer blockbuster in the U.S. may end up being the Christmas blockbuster overseas. If that occurs, the DVD version of the movie may be out in the U.S. while it is still showing in theaters overseas. In order to preserve the financial integrity of the theatrical distribution of a particular film, it is not possible (under normal conditions) to have a friend in the U.S. send a DVD copy of the film to the country where it is in theatrical release and be able to play the DVD on a player there.
Depending on who you are, region coding can be considered a blessing or a curse. If you are movie studio executive, this is great, not only do you reap maximum profits from the theatrical releases, but also from the DVD releases for your film. If you are a consumer wanting to see a movie that is available on DVD in your relative's country but not in yours, you may have to wait quite a while. However, another possible rationale for region coding is beginning to emerge, possible price-fixing of DVDs depending on region. Although this is yet to be legally proven in court, if proven to be true, Australian and European courts may just put the heat on Hollywood and manufacturers to discontinue region coding as a marketing practice. " its sort of like how you cant sell overseas versions in japan. |

Avex most likely will ignore an English email/petition anyway... x_x
I mean, region free DVD's would be nice... But, it's probably just easier to spend money on a region free DVD player (or a proven hackable DVD player)... Or we could always blackmail Avex and say if you don't make DVD's region free we'll be forced to buy BOOTLEGS...

No, they'll ignore you.
And if it means they'll stop making overseas version DVDs, it's a no-No-NO! (Different regions for OS Vers, region-free defeats the purpose of making OS Versions) Do yourself a favour and buy a region-free DVD player. Btw, it looks like Hikki's recent DVDs have a region-code. |
