As you can see from her lastest number of sales for Secret, they have been kindaa low. So I was wondering to myself, what could she do to boost some sales for any future releases?
Share what you think she could do to get a competitive edge in Japan again. :3 I personally think she should take a break for a while and release a full album out of nowhere with tons of promotion and PVs and tie-ins for every song. XD

well outside of Japan her sales are boosted with every release. but; yea in Japan we can use a boost. It's almost impossible though. Everyone in Japan already knows Ayu.. So people either like her or they don't. And from the people that like her, a certain stable group of people continualy buy her releases; and that group is declining and changing for two reasons:
1) time.. Ayu has been around for like 9 years and she's non-stop in the charts. Plus; the whole CDmarket is weaker than before. 2) dissatisfaction. Ayu can never please everyone because she has so many different styles of music/videos and images. So in order to boost the sales again, you need to make that stable group of people happy. If you do that, you can fight the 2nd reason of the fact that the sales are going down. But you cannot fight the 1st reason. So that means all Ayu can basically do is be sure that she has quality in her songs, in her videos and also in her image. But if you had like every type of music, with 230+ songs and 1500+ tracks, it's getting harder and harder to compete with your past productions. She probably can't boost her sales.
Just look at ELT. They've been out for 10 years and their last 3 original albums sold like.. Many Pieces -> 500k+ commonplace -> 300k+ Crispy Park -> 200k+ And their 1st album was a 2++ million seller..and the 2nd sold around 3.5-4million.. Sales, imo, don't matter once you've been in the business for a while, because if you've sold high at some point in your career, then it shouldn't really matter how you sell in the future since you're still able to stay 'stable' in the industry after so long.. PLUS we need to remember that Ayu's released an UNGODLY amount of CDs in the 8 years that she's been in the business.. O_O Remix albums, bests, singles, albums..

Release a best album...?
I don't think she can do much, except go on as she pleases. And continue making good music. If she was to think solely on sales it would probably be a good idea to not experiment as much, but I*d rather her just keep making the music she wants to make. |

Madonna style publicity stunt or A BEST!
or she could just kill all competition.

I just thought about something when I read above posts.
I don't have idea how to boost sales, I don't think there is a way. As it has been said, there is some stable group buying her release. The fact is that everyone knows Ayu in Japan today. So to "create" new fans, it is almost impossible. |

I don't want her to release Best Album.
If she releases Best, it is the end of her singing career in Japan. I think she should slow down the speed. maybe 1 album every 2 years. |

I really don't think a break would hurt her.

A break wont hurt her as long as she does not have a baby and get married during that break.
might end up like the sexy lady in my set.

2 - 3 singles yearly and 1 album every 2 yrs
It is acceptable. I think it is too rush for her to release every album every year. she just spent 1 month for mu maybe less than 1 month for Secret.. |

Or hang Koda on the top of it?... >D Seriously, here's what she should do: Release nothing during the next 10-11 months in 2007, only do the Asia tour, then, release a triple A-side single in November/December with 3 brand new songs. I bet it would hit 500,000 mark.

Or make out with koda and namie naked on kouhaku. That would top madonna. Break is no way at all to boost popularity. |

Ayu was unique during her gold days, but nowadays there are so many similar artists to her (I'm not saying she was copied). I agree with those saying she shouldn't release stuff every 3 months.
Let's not forget that she's still the number 1, and no, that's not my opinion, that's a fact. Just try releasing a new best album and you'll see what I'm talking about.

i think ayu's been more unique now than ever before
she's always released music that is different, with some exceptions but i guess she used to appeal more to the general public now it seems that she's making the music that she likes, and if people don't like it as much, then too bad the only thing that will boost her sales is something dramatic best album? crazy publicity stunt? who knows |

Instead of having big things..why not have small things
1. follow what Taiwanese artistes do..Meet the fans sessions "BRING YOUR CD AND GET MY AUTOGRAPH" First-Press - Entry ticket to get your autogrpah (gets prority) limited no.s only with this, fans will queue and then AYu can also promote her album to other people in the mall, passers-by if in the open..so on.. i think this attracts a lot of people 2. Also, TIE-INS FOR DRAMAS! i think she has been lacking in this BIG TIME! ANIMES! appeal to younger generation! and... 3. Triple A-side singles 4. REMIX ALBUMS! (i guess they stopped coz they werent selling well) anyway, 5. more ballads probably? what i see now is that PVs dont work like magic anymore, how touching, how eye-candy, how wild. Songs are just there ot be downloaded..so i think promotion has to be based on the CD itself not just by singing one song (u noe what i mean) Last edited by freedreamer; 13th December 2006 at 03:52 PM. |
