Well I have a feeling this US debut will be a flop. Anyway hope her material won't be as mellow as she's been churning out with avex...

I actually want to see this to happen unlike her supposed Chinese debut. Also,Se7en and Rain have kept on saying they are going to debut soon, but that has never happened.

well i think after listening to that song "Brave" off the new album "THE FACE" i think she's got the american style of music, but as for her english...someone better work wonders on her or she's gonna do horribly. i like BoA so i'm still gonna think positive. good luck BoA!

They got the source from JoongAng Ilbo. But personally I wouldn't bet the house on this. SM is known for talking big and never doing anything.

we'll see what excuses they'll use later on in the year which was why her debut was postponed..
maybe a clash with her name... maybe a cancelled world tour... maybe a single leak... =D

I have to agree with you there. It's funny too, because all of my friends seem to like Namie, whether or not they actually like J-Pop in general. Her style is very hip and if it were in English, I'm sure it would be enormously successful here with the right promotion. She would just need to work on her English as well. I've never seen her speak it out of songs like Ayu did in the CNN interview.

Really? I hope she does better than Utada, but unless she gets really lucky with producers and ends up with an Umbrella-style surprise hit I don't think she'll become a star in the US.

Utada's english album flopped, and I don't think BoA has anything that will set her apart from other artists. I saw Utada's CD at wal-mart when it came out, so I was optomistic, but it just kind of came, and went.
I don't know if it's an image thing, or if it's just that the music itself just isn't made for the mainstream American audience. I'd love some japanese artists to make some sort of splash over here, but the reality of it is that it's too much of a risk for the labels to put that much money into these artists, and without huge backing they just kind of come and go. These artists really have a niche appeal in the states when it comes down to it, and nothing more. It's a little sad, but then again it might not be the same if one of your favorite Japanese artists truley blew up big over here. They'd have to change up their sound, and/or image to even hope to do anything substantial. |
