What happened back then? Sounds awful. Even if you're there to support another artiste, i would be thrilled to see other artistes performed even if they are those i don't fancy. How often do you get to see celebrities!

The Kohaku audience is pretty much always like that for every artist, every year, so one really shouldn't read much into it. The atmosphere of Kohaku is one that is meant to be more of a high class one I guess you could say - people generally sit for the whole thing and there are often people like members of the royal family and what not there. There are also many enka performers on the show which bring in a more elderly audience.

yeah, and somehow I find the whole atmosphere of Kohaku a bit serious every year, but even so there were times you could hear people screaming "AYUUU".
Anyhow the HEYx3 perf was way better than the CDTV one.

Her voice seems fine now, not so deep, especially in the last bars.
