Yeah, me too. XD I thought I had maybe been /temporarily?/ banned or something for a mistake I made in a forum X_X; Especially as when I went on the site (I was automatically logged on..) it said I had a mail, but the site was unavailable..which showed other people could go on the site DX I was like "Nuuu! I'm sorry! >__<" LOL.

I didn't know this happened all the time, so I panicked. @.@;

Raising money has been suggested by people in the past, but it's been discussed and the people paying for the site dont want to take donations (note: I'm not one of them!). This site is going to remain free and donation free, sorry. I know there are plenty of people willing to donate, and the people responsible for the costs know that. Ultimately it's up to them however.

I understand the implications since I have brought it up before...

perhaps in the future we could implement a completely anonymous system?

where the person who has donated is never known to anyone?

Listen, all I'm trying to say is, I truly think the forum is different now, despite everything that's happened in the past.

We have a whole new slew of people that are always here, there can be terms and conditions, and people listen now...I mean seriously. I think you guys understand what I mean?

People don't feel the same ways they used to about others and the staff, and I just think that...trying it out wouldn't be such a bad idea, even if it is better to be safer than sorry.

It could work. And as this is a private site, like I said, you could have all your own terms and conditions and everything to keep track.

Like I said, it's really not up to me... I just wanted to say what I know so people in this thread kind of get a response. Maybe an anonymous system would be nice for the people who foot the bill. But again... it's their decision

How would you set up anonymous donations? How do you know their used wisely and not for buying pizza? How do you know their not from minors? It wouldn't be fair to take money from young kids... and if people donate, do they then feel like they have ownership to the site? It's a lot to think about.

Remember, the server problems are quite rare, and we only lose the site for maybe a day. We can all use a break from AHS now and again anyway

I wouldn't go that far. I'm still getting the message that this thread was created in response to.

Perhaps you can try to pitch the idea of a Paypal donation system since you need a valid bank account or credit card, and you need to be atleast 18 to set one up under your name. Youths can still have a bank account under a parents name, but most parents don't trust their kids enough to set one up before their 18 anyway . You can try to set a maximum to donate or just make a set amount to donate, like $5 or $10. Donations can exceed website maintenance costs, but the number of people willing to donate is always sporadic so leftover money could roll over to the next month. Example, I could make a donation this month but doesn't necessarily mean I can always make a donation in the ensuing months.

As for how our money is used, I think we'd trust site admins enough to know our money isn't being spent elsewhere, that is the whole reason why we'd donate in the first place

As for site ownership, I don't think anyone would ever assume that... but in case they do, they should look up the definition of "donation"

I don't know how the laws in america are, but in germany you can have your own bank account(on your own name) at every age, I got mine with 11. So that really doesn't work xD Maybe for some parts of the world(are bank accounts for under-18-years-olds really forbidden in america?), but not worldwide.
Well, I'm 14, have a Paypal and WOULD donate something(like 3-5 dollars) <- The last line was only to show, that youths are willing to give some money, too, if it helps, because this problem really get on my nerves!

and deleting old threads would be horrible! I just looked through all 58 pages of downloads today, to see, if i missed something

No its not forbidden, it depends on the laws of each state, but most (not all) state laws require to be atleast 18 or if you are under 18, need to sign with a parent. Some banks allow all ages too, so if you live in the right state and have the right bank, you can have your own bank account under the age. You have to be 18 though for credit card.

It is probably more lenient in Germany because German kids are not as irresponsible as American kids

I know, I understand.

My message wasn't really directed at you anyway, sorry. I've heard all these reasons before...and I guess, it is just safer this way.

But I do stand by the fact that, the forum isn't what it used to be, and a lot of the old problems are gone. I think some things need to come back to full swing, and we need to stop being afraid of certain things the members might think.

But that's all I'm going to say. Thanks for replying Cory

Really? I haven't got the error message in ages... it's just slow for me to load sometimes. I only get the error message like once a year.

I've been getting it every day for the past few weeks. About five times a day. It's absolutely ridiculous and to be honest it's taking away from any fun I get from the forum. I don't see why I should be here if the site can't even load or work properly for more than three minutes at a time.
