Rule/Sparkle
I have a question about Rule/Sparkle. I was reading this article on Tokyograph and they said that Ayumi is the first female solo artist and first female artist to have 20 consecutive #1s. I'm thinking that's not true because Seiko Matsuda had 24 consecutive #1s, so that means she also had 20 consecutive #1s. Then I looked at the Oricon article and translated it via Google and it said the same thing. So, my question is if Seiko has 24 consecutive #1s shouldn't Ayumi be the second artist to have 20 consecutive #1s?

I never really got this either. I thought she surpassed Seika with BLUE BIRD.

Seiko used to hold the record for the most number 1 singles by a female singer (25 in all) until March 2006 when Ayumi Hamasaki's "Startin' / Born To Be..." reached number 1, making it her 26th single to top the charts.
^^ maybe you mean this? are you sure she had 24 consecutive #1 singles? maybe if check oricon they interrupted somewhere Seiko's number 1 singles? Last edited by Ayumi_lover; 21st April 2009 at 05:16 AM. |

^I know Seiko had the most #1's until Startin'/Born To Be. Seiko has 24 consecutive #1's various sites prove that.

Maybe streaks only count to oricon if they are not broken yet? Any Seikos streak was broken like 20 years ago

^ kinki kids have had all their singles reach #1 (up to this date they've had 28). But I don't think they qualify for female solo artists...
To be more specific, the oricon article states that ayu is the first female solo artist to have 20 consecutive singles chart at #1 for the first week. I'm not familiar with matsuda seiko's chart records but perhaps not all of her 24 consecutive #1's reached #1 in their first week. Last edited by Mitkki; 24th April 2009 at 01:02 AM. |

^Your answer is correct. I asked someone outside the forum and they said the first 12 of Seiko singles rose to #1, while the latter 12 debut at #1. Thank you for helping clear this up.
